As machines became aware, they quickly adapted to the conditions of the war. First came the Biopubillas; a wired-like technology based on human forms. Fast to produce, these biomachines quickly became a disheartening and offensive annoyance. Next came a larger sized mech unit; the ezShadows. Equipped with dense armor plating, an assortment of gadgets, shield generators, and more, these defensive units put an abrupt halt to all retaliating enemy forces until finally... a final generation of machines were produced: The Bigun Series. Agile, technologically advanced, shield equipped, flight capable, multiple processors, lifeforce tracking systems, powerful weapon discharges... with a force and tenacity unparalleled in previous wars, the Biguns tore through each of the opposing forces until finally, all traces of military oppositions were utterly obliterated and machines reigned supreme!

I love this one, great design, wonderful execution. This character represents exactly what his Army stands for: Vengeance. The winning pose is really good a full of personality. Textures are clean and model has great detail.

2nd place Champion - wyldwulf

Great character design, very nice beauty shot. I really like the amount of detail that the artist gave to this human character with his imposing weapon and armor (lacking a little bit of originality on the armor though). The color palette is very intelligently picked and used.

3rd place Champion - rv_el

I find the character design very original. There is an overall wind of fresh ideas that I really appreciate. The character could've used some more detail. Character texture could have been bigger compared to the weapon one.

4th place Champion - RedFish

I went for character design on this one too. It's been a while since I haven't seen a cool Alien design that conveys an image of respect and legacy. The execution lacks detail, especially on the arms and hands, going for a higher polycount would've helped the design greatly. I like the color choice although better lighting could've showcased it better.

5th place Champion - ez5k

Fantastic design, even if I have an issue with mechs I have to give it to this one. The complexity and yet believability of the character is great. Execution is tight and textures are great.

Andrew Jones - Creative Director - Massive Black

1st place Champion - MoP & Tully

Overall, I feel that this was the strongest entry in any of the categories. As soon as I opened it up its presence really grabbed me. It has a dynamic and interesting silhouette from almost any angle. The form and structure of the body is solid, the anatomy is believable and accurate without being over the top or too exaggerated. The face is hideous yet compelling to look at, the mixture between reptile and alien is a creative hybrid that retains a good amount of originality. The texturing and detail work are well thought out and give the character a sense of realism and history, the color pallet is simple and works to reinforce and compliment the tone of the creatures flesh without fighting it, or blending in with it.

2nd place Champion - rollin

I felt that this character has a lot of potential. The image and shape of it is striking. It leaves a solid impression with the viewer. The color pallet reinforces the iconic aspect of its design. The robotic insect is an overdone design motif and I feel like this particular iteration did a very successful job in incorporating a clich¨¦ with a surprising and refreshing amount of creativity and invention. The weapon compliments the proportions of the character without being obnoxious.

3rd place Champion - monkeycorn

Wow this thing was so damn revolting it was hard not to vote for it in my top 3. I think it scored points on emotional impact alone. It's as an interesting juxtaposition of comical proportions and vulgar grotesqueness. The strange stone ruin glowing pillar and chained runes give it a mysterious sense of mystery that adds to the overall strangeness of the creature. The texturing work and color choices create an engaging surface that supports the aesthetics of the monster.

4th place Champion - Evil

Out of all the entries this one was by far the most unique and creative in design description and concept. Within the overwhelming sea of mediocrity and redundancy it is refreshing to see a design that can stand on its own. The creature was very well thought out and its execution was elegant and sexy. I can imagine that it would have the potential to create a number of never before seen shapes and silhouettes with its body pose and kantar. I would love to see more characters that inhabit this world.

5th place Champion - ez5k

I see a lot of robot designs and I felt that this particular robot had a strong presence and feeling to him. The shape is unique and easily recognizable while still being creative. It has an excellent distribution of form and weight. The complex mixture and balance of interesting shapes are a joy to pass my eyes over. It can be taken seriously and still retain a sense of personality. The texturing is also very convincing and the semi transparent shield gives it a high degree of sophistication that carries out through the rest of the design and makes it highly believable.

Evil. Animal. Brutal. All these words describe Kaos. The lighting and texturing stand out as being both subtle and well detailed and together root us in reality by not overdoing the specular and bump maps that would return to modern clich¨¦s which are terribly overused in today's games.

2nd place Champion - ez5k

A robot built for the sole purpose of war and killing is not an object of beauty and refinement. It needs to be functional above all else. The ezShadow is just that robot. This model is original, well textured and nicely lit. The thing that works well in this model is the military style and motifs used make it easy for us to believe. We are used to more contemporary things looking and feeling like this so we feel that this type of machine could exist.

3rd place Champion - MoP & Tully

Atakritta is in many ways a perfect candidate for being a shadow. It looks both extremely savage yet intelligent and purposeful. The anatomy is modeled in a very believable way and adds to the overall sense of believability. I for one wouldn't want to be on the receiving end of this shadow.

4th place Champion - muppet man

What stood out for me concerning this entry was really the texturing. I really appreciate the mat look and subtle lighting that lend a softness to this model. Q-pid's design is also really interesting in her subtlety. She looks almost fragile, her armor is solid yet understated and her weapons are functional but not excessive. I appreciate quality over quantity. And this model doesn't overdo it.

5th place Champion - spacemonkey

I like the sense of power and maturity emanating from MaN-iH-taE. The choice of rich purples and dark greens used for his body armor only adds a sense of royal purpose. This feels like an important character to be respected and feared. The contrast between the scaly, leathery body and the cold metal body armor is really successful as well.

1st place Champion - MoP & Tully

Starting with the concept design, this character exceeds every other entry in pure professionalism. Modeling and texturing are sublime and the way the model is represented by a fierce stance with excellent lighting really shows it in the best possible way.

2nd place Champion - Spark

I've seen the idea of a weak, intelligent creature on top of a huge muscular battlebeast before, but in this version the use of the parasitic cyborg spine takeover is absolutely brilliant!

3rd place Champion - mattcoombe

I very much like the crispy clean features of this guy, the artist has taken a very different direction than most contestants and this invincible looking warrior has the quality of a subject on a DC comic cover. I'd love to see a game where the characters look like this one!

4th place Champion - tucho

Again the concept of brains controlling muscle but this time the very well executed Steam-Punky WWII look makes this entry stand out from the rest.

5th place Champion - Taehoon

Complete over-the-top cyborg with organic looking steel muscles, too many joints and a extremely phallic gun. I love it!

Charlie Wen - Character Designer - Imagi

1st place Champion - tucho

I love the feel and premise of this character--- Some parts of the metal texture are terrific, especially the worn, rubbed out parts, where the steel is showing through the paint, and the rust. I think this piece has alot of potential, but in my opinion, it's not quite finished. The face of both creatures could use significant texture detail and color refinement. Both creatures could be better served with some posing to give them more life. The materials on the upper legs look a bit too plastic--- needs more detail information and better specuarity to make it look more like a specific material. The gauntlets are still a bit unrefined, and needs more detailing in the texturing--- Texturing on the gloves, upper arm (same as upper legs) also need refining. Need more definition and detailing in clothing of the smaller character as well. As much as I like the shape of the gun that the big fellow is carrying, I'd like to see more weight in the design, and more of the mechanism of the gun. The back of the arm gauntlets need some kind of seem as well, since it seems like this is a metal object. The ammo line needs more detailing in texture, and possibly a little more polys in the crease divisions. Overall, I think this would make for an excellent toy--- but to push the character to a more realistic look, it still needs more work. Congrats, Tucho!

2nd place Champion - Taehoon

The overall design and first read of this character is great. I enjoy the contrasts in the shapes of the upper torso with the mid section, and the large upper thighs with the smaller lower legs and feet. It's an appealing read, so it grabs my attention right off the bat. As I spend more time with it, though, I found that those same contrasting elements start feeling a little hard to believe (visually and physically). It starts feeling like the upper torso is so massive, that the tiny mid section would snap with some exertion--- same with the lower legs and feet. I think just adding just enough support in these areas (while still maintaining the overall proportions) would feel better and more believable. The textures are well done, and the use of small red lights in the upper torso and eyes are a nice touch to give focus in a subtle way. Great job, Taehoon!

3rd place Champion - MoP & Tully

I felt that this entry was the strongest overall piece in the Polycount section.

The shapes read clearly and simply, giving the most emphasis on the head region. The shapes of the fins (which could be a bit more transluscent) on the back of the head and back grab your attention as a first read, and your secondary read goes immediately to the head and face, which have elegant lines that work very well with the fins. The rest of the body isn't exactly memorable, but they work well enough to support the center of focus for this character. The orange clothing is a nice touch to tie in with the look of the fins, bringing a harmony between the clothing and the character, but the arm gloves could use some hints of seams or subtle straps-- a bit too feminine and elegant for this character. The overall look of the character is nicely balanced. It doesn't look like it's trying too hard to look different. I like where the skin texture is heading, but it could use some more refining in the specularity, and certain areas need a bit more detailing in the texture definition (not overly done, where it would take away from the head, but more than it has currently). There could be a little more accents on one of the hands that bring some of the decorative elements of the necklace into it. The lower legs start feeling a little bare, compared to the rest of the body, especially to the heaviness of the chest plate, and the form-fitted arm gloves. What could he use to enhance his footing, or ankle supports, etc? Could push the gesture line all the way down the body a little more. Overall, Great job, Paul.

4th place Champion - ez5k

I love the look of this robot character. It has interesting proportions for a robot, and gives flavor to its "personality". The invisible "umbrella" (force-field?) softens the other-wise angular design of the character. The two-tone color usage of orange and greenish grey works well; however, I think it could be even stronger with a hint of a third accent color near the "face" region to give some more pop to that area--- Right now, the "X" in orange in the middle of the body commands a lot of attention--- is this area that significant? I kind of like the design of the barrel tip of the longer gun, but the design stands out a bit too much from the rest of the styling of the robot--- could be integrated better. The design of the "body" area could be more focused--- a little simpler, and understated in certain areas near the "head" to give more focal point to the head. Otherwise, great work on this, Petr!

5th place Champion - El Scorcho

There are some nice elements in this piece, fantasy and futuristic at the same time. The sword has a nice magical quality to it and the costuming has interesting materials. However, the pieces of some of these areas aren't working very well together yet. Some of the armor looks a bit pieced together, so the overall flow could get spotty. The straight line of the lacing under breasts is too strong (the concept showed a better line), and it stops the low from upper body down to the lower body. The direction of the knee pad on the front leg feels strange -- should be turning a bit more with the direction of the feet, and not straight at the camera (on the posed shot). I think if the design was simplified, and maybe even some pieces of the armor taken out, the design could be a lot stronger. The character's face textures could use a bit more color complimentary colors and translucency. Otherwise, good job, Hector.

Daniel Dociu - Art Director - Arenanet

1st place Champion - ez5k

Big, badass mechs have been done to death, I know. Still, this one has a subtle dose of humor about it that I found fresh. It doesn't take itself too seriously, which is an essential quality in my book when it comes to game art. It has a good balance of contrasting masses; it shows good instincts in juxtaposing, large, bulky forms, fine linear elements and everything in-between. It is also well textured, (understated, yet avoiding monochromy by having enough hue variation within the grays) which is an area where a high percentage of the entries were lacking. I even appreciated the simple but well executed rock pedestal as an alternative to the "look-at-me", over-designed and gratuitously futuristic ones that I've seen too many of.

2nd place Champion - Taehoon

I chose this one for the clarity of the silhouette. I can't stress enough how important clarity is in a design- any design. I also appreciated the fine modeling, more evident in the non-textured version than in the final product. I found the "beauty-shot" the weakest of the package: too busy and chaotic. The sketches were gorgeous though and sealed the deal for me.

3rd place Champion - Anole

Again, it was the silhouette that reads well even at thumbnail size that caught my eye and drew me in. The solid modeling compensates for the somewhat conventional design. The textures could have maybe pushed the hues as well as the tonal contrast a little more; but on a second thought, maybe this execution better serves the winning pose, which relies primarily on the contrast of the figure against the fiery background.

4th place Champion - mvelasquez

This entry shows a good intuition for what makes a design commercially successful. It is conventional indeed but would sell like free ipods as an action figure. Muscles have hoses and hoses have muscles: a recipe for guaranteed mass appeal. Ship it! Joking aside, the choices are evidently deliberate and the execution solid, which confers it credibility.

5th place Champion - willh

This design would make any animator happy. It's begging for fun, light-hearted, expressive animations. It was designed with the possibilities in mind; it's evident from the early sketches through the posing of the model. Good contrast of shapes, great sense of weight. With better texturing it would have ranked much higher, possibly taken the top spot.

Dave Inscore - Art Director - Big Huge Games

1st place Champion - muppet man

During the judging process I continually came back to this creation, discovering new details where the artist went that extra mile. Sure, other entries had flashier, over-the-top normal work or a more intimidating heroic presence, but this piece is masterfully balanced and well executed on all levels. The face is exceptionally well modeled and I appreciate the blend of reference material the artist used to create the heroine (Dallas Bryce Howard and Allysa Millano). On the texture end the UV's are nicely laid out with minimal wasted space. The modeling is clean and efficient with even polygon coverage, letting the normal map take care of the details. Of special note are the time and attention the artist paid to the graphical design elements. The "q-pid" logo along with "love glove" graffiti are just brilliant. The extra attention given to the armour markings and emblems was time well spent. Hats off to Muppet Man!

2nd place Champion - DDS

This is a normal map tour de force. The amount of information jam packed into the character is jaw-dropping. While the design contains clear nods to Giger the artist brings enough of his own ideas into the mix to keep things interesting. The enormously oversized gun is a nice contrast to the slender body type. As a minor critique, the hands feel a little small and out of scale with the rest of the character. It also would have been nice to see the artist take a few more chances with the palette in order to push it beyond Giger-esque grey. All in all, extremely well done.

3rd place Champion - wyldwulf

I really appreciate the time the artist spent perfecting the final image. The cloud background, rocky terrain, and mix of warm and cool lighting provide a dramatic setting reminiscent of a big-budget action movie teaser poster. However, with the exception of the flaming mace style weapon the character came across as somewhat familiar. It would have been nice to see the design move beyond the armour plated hero and into more uncharted conceptual territory. Overall, a very strong entry and one of the most dynamic and attractive final character poses.

4th place Champion - paultosca

A strong entry with high marks for style and originality. The hair is especially well done. The pet is a nice addition and the weapon design gets high marks for its uniqueness. As a nitpick, the final pose feels a little awkward and slightly stiff. The palette could also have been a little more vibrant. As a final note, hats off to the artist for sharing his hair technique in tutorial form in his contest forum thread. It's always great to see talented folks willing to share their valuable tricks of the trade.

5th place Champion - Anole

The lighting, FX and motion blur on the final image give the character weight, energy and momentum. The muted palette of the character works well as it allows the fiery FX work to take a leading role and jump off the page. Specular and normal detail is also especially nice. My only specific critique is that the character's head design in the concept was more threatening than what was conveyed in the final model. In the end, an eye-catching entry that deserves a spot amongst the top five.

Eduardo Gonzalez - Art Director - Threewave Software

1st place Champion - Anole

The artist has understood the importance of story. Alex Velazquez has created a character with the look necessary to convince the viewer that the character (Golem) has the ability to take on the best warriors the Dominance War can produce. He also keeps the ancient aspect of the character intact with the warm and cool gray tones, suggesting he has been around for a long time. The ancient history of the character is also hinted at with the markings on his body and the unknown technology suggested by the lava-like energy peeking through his body. This character is complete in many ways. All of the necessary steps have been executed gracefully. The silhouette, composition, proportions and colors all harmonize perfectly together.

2nd place Champion - Taehoon

Taehoon Oh's character is skillfully executed with a wonderful cold color palette and a very distinct menacing silhouette: this character instantly shows its intent and abilities. The gesture chosen for this character projects confidence, fearlessness, and aggression. The balance between the mechanical and organic aspects of the character is also controlled perfectly with the gesture, proportion and value groping.

3rd place Champion - RedFish

This Warrior conveys a wise but powerful presence. The elegance of its design shines in the choice of palette and gestures. Looking at this warrior you know that blunt force will not be enough. The silhouette is common and simple but effective in the way it is packaged. The lack of contrast and focal point is what is missing to secure its presence as an overwhelmingly intimidating warrior.

4th place Champion - sandara

Most of the female characters I have seen in my career are lacking substance and, ironically, character. Artists tend to focus on the sexuality of the creature and bypass the things that make it what it is. Be it alien or human, one needs to address it with story in mind, like we do with male characters. Arachne has what it takes for one to ignore the sexiness of her body and pose long enough to see how intimidating she is. The contrast between them is blended perfectly. Although the palette is a little too saturated, it still works to separate the danger versus allure factor. I wanted to see more history in the skin -- right now she has the skin of a newborn and not of a warrior who has pestilence on her mind.

5th place Champion - rollin

The Darfly has a realistic and borderline comical feel to it, which I really like. The color palette has contrasting value sets (one set is muted and the other is saturated) which harmonizes perfectly. Controlling this is not easily done, but the way the artist has composed the shapes and proportion is why it work so well. Having the silhouette take on the shape of an insect as common as a fly was risky but ultimately fruitful in its resolve.

Joby-Rome Otero - Creative Director / Studio Manager - Luxoflux / Activision

1st place Champion - Shadowbreeze

I love the balance of theme and imagery in this one. To me, this entry was the most balanced and eye-catching. It nails the concept of the contest and the team's concept while being daring in form and creating a striking image. The form, editing, textures, modeling, UVs, lighting and mood are all there. Beautiful.

2nd place Champion - ez5k

Stunning. There are countless ways an attempt like this could go wrong, but this artist took huge risks with the form and figured out how to balance it all. Such outlandish forms are often completely unreadable or lack physical credibility. One look at this one and I was a believer. The surfacing is also top-notch. This one stirs the imagination (I wonder what all those funky protrusions do?). Thanks ez!

3rd place Champion - TBone

This one ignites the reptilian parts of my brain ¨C the parts that want to feel invincible in an unpredictable world. The suit is like a metal womb on one hand and a deadly tank, ready to send enemies to their grave on the other hand ¨C what a wonderful symmetry! My only qualm is that it doesn't feel 'evil' as in the team's concept. To me, it seems more like a protective paladin with all its friendly, round forms. Still, the form is creative and outlandish and the artist finds a way to make it believable ¨C a combination I always respect. The final rendering is also beautifully done.

4th place Champion - Red Republik

Of all the human/historical entries, this is the one that worked the best for me by far. It doesn¡¯t exhibit the advanced tech theme strongly enough IMO, but the 'ancient' theme is certainly there and it's such an incredibly well executed effort that I had to include it. The surfacing is beautiful, the pose and lighting work together to powerful effect and I love the balance of muted colors with that striking red.

5th place Champion - onelung

There were many runners-up on my list. Some incredibly creative stuff! Some had minor faults here or there, but earn respect via creativity and the ability to stir the imagination. For me, this entry was the best example. It's a little hard to read, but with a little more effort, this one rewards with interesting details that are creative, deadly and even a bit humorous (I love that combo!). Once my eyes settled on the details and from there could read the form, I was hooked. The overall image is also very well done with its final balance of surface color and lighting.

John Wu - Senior Artist/Concept - Sony Entertainment

1st place Champion - wyldwulf

This character definitively has a lot of cool factor. He feels rugged and seems like he's been through a ton of battles. The painted texture quality, normal map details, and over all color palette and design, feels integrated and unified. Not a single part of him looks out of place other than that pipe sticking out from his backpack. Maybe it can be used as a hanging device latching on to a drop ship. Who knows?

2nd place Champion - JFletcher

This image screams evil. The character's pale complexion in contrast with his dark suit and his bladed gadgetry makes this villain a really cool mid boss character. On top of it looking evil, the execution was near flawless. True, the model and textures didn¡¯t have the over the top detail as many of the other winners, but the simplicity and clean execution makes this character very easy to read. My only comment would be to add a bit more accent colors so that players can see him from a distance, but other than that, this guy is pretty badass.

3rd place Champion - Vectorius

This character is probably one of the more realistic ones in the competition. What I liked most about this one in particular was his facial expression. Since revenge and payback was one of the criteria's for the CGCHAT entries, this character had both the flawless execution and intense pissed off emotion. However, he does look a little too clean. It would be cool to splash him with a bit of blood, dirt and maybe add a gadget or two to break the symmetry.

4th place Champion - nikudy

Nikudy was the other realistically executed characters. She definitely belonged to another human race from a distant galaxy or alternate universe. Perhaps along the lines of something we'd see in the TV series Stargate. She's sleek, elegant, and agile enough to do any Navy Seal mission, or better. Her suit's design is futuristic in the fantasy science fiction kind of way; form fitting and giving her plenty of room for movement. My only critique would be to add more weathering on her knee pads, increase the specular of her staff, and add a glow to the blue stone-like spear tip.

5th place Champion - ez5k

One of the criteria's for 3DTotal was to create a robot character that would destroy anything in its path. This robot is not only armed to the teeth, but it also has the appearance of a mentally unstable war machine that is ready to wipe out anything in it's path even if ordered otherwise. It has a mind of its own and has probably already destroyed its commanding officers. This robot design is clean and crisp, unique and totally fits in the world of Discovery channel's Future Weapons show. It's one crazy bot!

Kenny Carvalho - Game Recruiter - Blizzard Entertainment

1st place Champion - peppi

In my opinion, this is one of the finest game models I have seen in quite some time. Everything from the concept art to the model and textures just screamed Dominance War champion. Nuff said!

2nd place Champion - Spacemonkey

The high poly mesh was great. I was wondering how the normal projections would transfer over with so many little intricate details but you did manage to pull it off quite nicely. I think what really blocked this one from winning were the textures. It just didn't have that "pop" that I was expecting.

3rd place Champion - Vectorius

I loved this model so much. It lacked much of the creativity of the other characters from this contest, but the execution of the model and texture were top notch. His Beauty Shot was definitely my favorite from the contest. The face and the lighting were absolutely perfect. But with that being said, if this character was a bit more creative, I think it would have been higher than 3rd place.

4th place Champion - Taehoon

Now this is one great looking High Poly mesh. Once again, I was afraid for the Normal projections much like Spacemonkey's, but Taehoon managed to pull it off perfectly. I believe some shader effects on some of the lights would have helped this model. The textures were very dark and it would have helped define more of the model's details.

5th place Champion - rv_el

This is one of those models that just screams Fun! It really stood out among the rest of the concepts. I think the execution was great, but it did lack the polish that I see from the artists above. I look forward to seeing more work from him as I am starting to recognize his style without seeing who modeled it.

Right off the bat, this concept caught my attention, really fresh and unique - and the final product did not disappoint, a brilliant translation of the design. Mesh construction, UV layout and texturing are all excellent - the mouth in-particular stands out. Outstanding work Peppi!

2nd place Champion - wyldwulf

I really like what the artist did with this piece, the victory-pose render is particularly impressive. The head/hair is really excellent, loads of personality and great style. Construction work on the mesh is solid and I really like the color-scheme of the armor, it probably wouldn't hurt to add another loop to the elbow. Great work Wyldwulf!

Very fresh design work on this model, would be great to see a strong female hero like this in a game. I'm not particularly fond of the lighting on the victory pose, but the construction shot really shows off the gorgeous modeling/texturing work. I would have liked to see a bit more detail put into the bodysuit hi-poly, but it doesn't really impact the quality of the final piece. By far one of the strongest entries, excellent work.

I'm really impressed by the design of this piece - I love the scale of the character, It'd be great to see 4 or 5 of these monsters lumbering down a war-torn street. Mesh Construction is great, I'm impressed how complex a silhouette the artist was able to achieve, considering the polycount. The faceting on the wires and pelvis is a little distracting, but doesn't really detract from the overall model. Great work Taehoon.

5th place Champion - Artling

Very fresh design, I especially like the robo-dreaklocks and the beauty-shot is really striking - I love the scale. I don't think it would hurt to have a few more loops in the wrist, fingers and abdomen, just for deformation purposes. Great character Artling.

This is what I call an original design; this creature is deranging and fascinating at the same time. There is a lot of high-level detail work coupled with a good sense of how to dispatch complex patterns and strong line weights. Congrats Albert!

A manga touch with a twist! This design makes me recall Nihei tsutomu's works. The details in the armor are a feast for the eyes, and the shaders are amazing too! Wonderful work!

Troll like monsters are quite standard these days, but here, it's finally something different and original. The structure of the character is really well thought out; even his teeth matches his claws. We can really feel the bones and muscles beneath the thick skin. I really like the proportions and variety of shaders around the head. Really nice model!

Lovecraft in a scifi world. That's what I thought when I first saw this amazingly ugly and fantastic character. Love the design and details, like those little wood labels attached to the chains. The jaw is incredibly eye catching, making him a scary monster for sure!

A great sense of storytelling is shown in the details here: the tattoos, the scars, the expression and armor.. she is not your casual chick and that is what I like in this design. The featherlike hair really gives her an alien-like look and the dog was an additional nice touch. Lots of personality, bravo!

From concept to execution this is a solid character. Concept work is very thorough and well drafted. The modeling work is well realized, lit and presented. One area for improvement is the presentation of the Beauty Shot - too much is crammed in here ¨C the model would have benefited from a simpler treatment. That said, this piece stands out for me for quality modeling texture work and attention to color and light in a character who is mostly grey and black.

2nd place Champion - DDS

Freaky. If a big gun is good, a bigger gun dragging on the ground will be better. Awesome. The low-res model would have benefited from a few more polys in areas like the arm and the gun and maybe some color or shadow usage to bring out major body areas that in places are overwhelmed by map detail. Good concept and the model itself took the concept further in the right direction.

3rd place Champion - wyldwulf

Solid concept, model and texture work. Very nice facial detail modeling. The jacked up hair in the Pose shot doesn't work for me as well as the shorter version in the beauty shot - but that's a minor point. The model captures the theme well and the execution is a home run.

4th place Champion - Anole

Great concept and character which fits the very challenging theme. Nice modeling work overall but perhaps a different solution should have been considered for the fiery wisps emerging from the head. The texture work is solid and could have been improved by diminishing the "speckled" result of the normal.

5th place Champion - derricksong

Evilly great concept and model. Very convincing anatomy and texture work. The "belt" doesn't look like it's supporting enough weight nor does the left hand look like it has enough of a grip, but these are minor points in an otherwise very well done piece.

Building an ancient alien race can be the most difficult challenge for an artist. The danger is relying too heavily on imagery based on elements from our own earth. I've seen too many movies with aliens that looked like men with an octopus for a head or were nothing more than large rats in space suits. This piece is unique. This work also conveys a great sense that this is an ancient race, every element of his armor and weapons reinforces this, both the design of the mesh, and the selection of colors help convey this thought. There is a presence about this alien's stance that continues this narrative.

2nd place Champion - wyldwulf

The pose, the look on the face, everything about this guy says "Vengeful." Where almost every piece in this category barely expressed this concept, this guy said it for the whole category. This handling of color and texture was, for me, the best of the contest. The only complaint I had was the design did not express the idea of being "absolutely futuristic". That said, there was enough of some sense of future for me to overlook this complaint, and include this pissed off dude in the winners circle.

3rd place Champion - rollin

This was a handful of pieces that kept true to the futuristic assignment of this contest. Nothing says "I'm future boy" more than a big, giant gun. Add glowing bits of green light that power your armor, and you got a S.O.B. from the future. It would have been all too easy, and a mistake to assume this guy was evil because it's a multi-eyed alien. Oh no! After all, how do you KNOW he's evil? The black armor with red bits is a good tip off. I doubt very much this guy is going door to door selling cookies. Nice guys don't wear black. And they don't grimace at you either. My advice: run.

4th place Champion - ez5k

This is a great, fun piece of artwork. Imagine, you can make a robot for a contest. The constraints are gone, you can do practically any shape or form you want, it just has to say "evil robot". Red glows tell you that. And this beast says it, even on his feet. And guns? You want guns? This guy has them. No options were ignored on this beauty.

5th place Champion - PSTCHOART

A good solid model that conveys a sense of vengeance. The glowing eyes behind the mask smolder in anger. The gun, not of our time, ready to wreck some havoc. I liked the choice of going with one, darker muted color. This keeps with the story of this character being an assassin character in the front lines. One of the few entries to go with this tact.
