View Full Version : Map that appears in shadows?
Hi guys,
This is my problem: I would like to use some kind of map that appears only in the shadows. This is what I would like to get using allowed maps (if it is possible :inocent: )

In this example I have used falloff type shadow/light (as a shadow color, I have used checker) as a self illumination map. But I seriously doubt that it's allowed :brick:
Any tips?

I can't see your file. Generally, shadows would count as effects, so you would have unlimited polies, but, before I say this, do you have a sample? You can use the forum attachments feature to upload your sample:)

OK here it is, I hope it will be clearer :)

I really prefer not to download any plugins. I just reinstalled everything last tuesday because my comp started to get funny with everything I downloaded:brick: Do you perhaps have an image that explains it?
The file is standart .max? Nevertheless here is the image that should explain it better than the one above, hopefully :inocent: .

this probably wont help.. but if u were using vray i think u can do that with the over-ride material
or i guess u could bake the shadow map and use it as an alpha for ur texture... tho this would be static

Realy, I realy can use it? Even, if I would use falloff map (as i mentioned before)?
You know, I would like to make the character look realy cool, so I got an idea that he might have different "color" while moving in the shade ( evil antient marks etc.)
So, do I have a green? :)
To Maio: I know how to do it, but I wasn't quit sure if it is the right way (rules).

Yes, you have a green light:thumb: However, take a look at all of last year's entries. Everyone more or less stayed away from special effects because it really takes away a little of that game-like feeling. Nevertheless, if you think after using this effect, your character still looks like it belongs in a game, then by all means, use it:)
