My recommendation would be to head to your closest large bookstore and pick up an intro book for your 3d app of choice. You'll find hundreds of tutorials for Maya and 3Ds online, but none of them will provide the same incremental buildup of skills that going through a structured book will. In my opinion, anyways. If you're on the cheap, check out www.half.com (http://www.half.com), you'll be able to get one of said books for real cheap there.

I would go for some very basic training videos introducing the 3D application you decide to go with.

Here's some good sources:

The Gnomon Workshop (http://www.thegnomonworkshop.com)
Gnomonology (http://www.gnomonology.com)
Digital Tutors (http://www.digitaltutors.com)
Lynda.com (http://www.lynda.com)

This is partly how I finally got the hang of 3D applications (aside from trial and error). I tried books -- which work well for some -- but that was never quite visual enough for me.
