Darksun has entered the competition!
Only have 3 images so far:
Wanted to make the Shukaku feel more like Gaara's primal self, reflect his selfish bloodlust.
The one in the comic fit the Tanuki lore but I felt a disconnect with Gaara's character as it seemed more like a silly gangster. lol.

With more time, judging from your concepts, I am sure yours would have rocked. Your sketches look great. If you don't finish this time, maybe next time..
I like the one on the right the best:)

Dunno how much contrast I should have.. if I should only add a few shadows, fill the whole thing.. etc.. the current look helps it feel like sand.. hmm

this is looking nice, man. I'm liking the way your making him look, never did like the look of the original one from the show.

Where can I see these models tryforce is talking about?
Man, this render turned out really good, however, I am a little unsure about what he is walking on and his surroundings. Are they clouds he is standing on? Or is that the ground and the smoke around him, are they dust clouds? If he is the beast that comes out of gaara, maybe some more browns would lock everything in? And if that is the ground he is walking on, maybe some of those farmland patterns you see from an airplane could be cool on the ground. this would help make him look huge. But, if this would make him look too big, then trees in the background would help us understand exactly how big he is.
Regardless, very nice piece here. He turned out great:thumb:

Thanks guys.
Fred He's just supposed to be standing in the desert, the Dust clouds are a combination of his moving and Gaara manipulating the sand. Now that I look at it, it really does look like he's standing on... well, nothing!
Professor420 over at Polycount did a really nice contrast touch-up so i'm going to take some cues from that and give the scene some better context if I can..

Where can I see these models tryforce is talking about?
His Goku gets used as a costume Model in a Modification Called Earth Special Forces for Halflife, dont know where to acces it. His Krillin, dont know. It was good piece of work tbh. Everybody was going insane after his skills there. If Darksun wants to share he maybe could get old pics of it back, not sure where from though. Its been so long.
Anyway, dont know if its my laptop, but the contrast is so low . Its hard to see the shape of the arms clearly as anything else. Hope you fill fix it.
Good work! ;)

Hi Darksun,
Please give us some more of your art. It doesn't matter if it is not done today... It is interesting to see the personal progress ... Looking forward to it and the above creature is very promising of what to come (I hope).

glastonbury, eh? I assume that must be the town in CT.....
if so, we've got a semi-regular sketch group thats been meeting at the New Britain Diner on Wednesday nights for a little over 2 years.
if you're interested, here's the link to the thread on CA: LINK (http://www.conceptart.org/forums/showthread.php?t=38490&page=20)
The drawing here is looking mighty fine so far, you'll have to get in on the next competition at the beginning so you can take it the whole way. :thumb:

sweet man!
Yeah I'm in CT, I'd definitely like to check that out! Do the guys in the group do 3D modeling as well? Any chance to learn/talk to from someone in person about that stuff is a big help to me.
cool! I just got the notice from your post on CA. :)
