Hello all,
Well today I'm a very happy guy, thought I would share my happiness with my favourite forum. If anyone cares :P
Your looking at the new Junior Character Artist for Bedlam Games. I went in for an interview yesterday and was hired on the spot :). Some of you might remember me dropping my comiccon challenge because I was sent a character test half way threw the comp. Fortunately I was able to complete both the art test and my comiccon character thanks to the extension.
Anyway I'm super pumped about this oppurtunity and thought I'd share the news. The only problem now, I gotta learn the Max interface and tools within 2 weeks. which really isnt a problem, Max and Maya r essentially the same, just a dif interface and the tools r a bit different, shouldnt be a problem..... i hope :P

Nice! Gratz!
I came from a maya background and had to do a crash course in max as well... it's really not that hard. Some of it you'll say "wtf, why would they do it that way?" but all in all it shouldn't be that much of a problem. Though I'm really not happy with 2010... they kind of just slapped things together and didn't think about integrating the polyboost tools well enough.

Congrats!!! Fantastic stuff! I loved your Dwar entry, and Batman.
I assumed you were already working though.
:)
Good news indeed!
NOW just because you've got the job, doesn't mean you're allowed to disappear from forums, or stop doing those contest.

Congrats Ritorian, i thought you already had the job too, so i guess that say's something about your work:thumb:
not a max user myself, but most of the books you can get usually have a section near the front or back for user's coming ion from another program. you might want to pop down to chapters/indigo and see if they any currnet max books in their comp section and give those bits a read.
Congrats man well deserved!
I envy you as well, times are hard so bust your ass to keep it now :).
And here is some helpful information for you, hopefully:
Maya to max! (http://boards.polycount.net/showthread.php?t=65218&highlight=maya+max)
congrats man !
don't worry about max, if you are a maya user, max wont be difficult to learn. I did the same two years ago.
Two weeks is fine to learn it !

thanks everyone
seven - thanks bud, appreciate the comment. Some guys at the studi yesterday were saying they love the new max 2010, said there's some new stuff that they kinda integrated from maya that I would like. Like the "Make surface Live" featuire from Maya which i use all the time to retop my lows. I dont really know anything yet about poly boost, so I'll get back to ya on that ;) cheers
grimdc13 - thanks, the interview went very well, we basically just talked about stuff, wasnt much interview questions persay, more of a 'get to know you' sorta thing. I was pretty nervous going up there but once I was there It was really comfortable.
Arreador - lol thanks man, i guess :P.
JacqueChoi - Thanks for the nice comments bud, appreciate it ;).. I've been actually working freelance for the past year, so this will be my first in house job. Oh and don't worry, I'll still be around the forums alot, def won't be a stranger, I love the community here keeps me on my toes, plus it's fun :)
ScudzAlmighty - Thanks bud, Actually I have a Max book, and some video tutorials on Max, just never really looked at them so much because I was busy with work, but I had a feeling one day I'd have to make the transfer. So for the next 2 weeks that's pretty much gonna be my viewing and reading.
sinz - Thanks man! I appreciate anything anyone can give me to help the transfer, thanks again.
jocz - Thanks bud, ya I think I should be ok too, I'm somewhat excited to learn something new anyway. thanks again for the confidence.

That is one thing you'll like, they did integrate some of the things they've had in maya for awhile. They still don't have a true outliner like maya has though there's a script that modifies the current "outliner" to behave like maya's. It's not a bad program, it's just a different way of attacking a work flow. People who love max will always preach about it :) Again, it's a good program and gets things done I just would rather use maya.

Congrats on the new starting position as a Character Artist. I saw some artists going through the transition from max to maya... lots of swearing.. then cursing... but all smiles in the end:thumb:
I am sure it will be easy for you.

I know that happend to me when I took my first Maya 3D animation class last year. But it's not so bad now, but I'm sure I'd get all messed up again if I used something like a bit different again like XSI.

Try learning Houdini then if you're used to Maya/Max/whatever. :D
If there's one thing I've learned from that experience -> forget everything you know, and learn the software the way it's meant to be learned. And don't force it to work as another app. :)

That's awesome news, Ritorian. Glad someone's getting hired in this economy. And it sounds like the job you were going for as well. So few character artist jobs... Congratulations, man.

Wow, congrats! If skills like yours are required to land a junior position, I'm f-ed!
I'm also transitioning from maya to max and it's not too hard. I'm going slowly since I have no job to give me deadlines. It's easy due to just how much there is online. It was like I had already learned max without using it due to how many threads and tutorials and stuff there are about it.:p
I just checked and apparently maya 2010 is out, but on the Autodesk website they didn't show there being any improvements to modeling. Another reason for me wanting to use max more.

Congratulations mate, checking your portfolio some damn fine work. Learning max is relatively straight forward it's a little more rigid than maya but a few months down the line you'll be doing everything just as quickly.

Congratz mate! Good luck with the new job (i'm still looking!) and with max as well. You shouldn't have too much problems with it.
I checked out ur website and there's some really great stuff. Loved your "Batman Beyond" and "Leonardo" models. Btw, just thought to tell you but where you put "home" link on every page well there isn't one on the "Comicon" one so dunno if you want to sort that out? It's only a minor thing!
Anyways, do us proud!

Congratulations, I remember seeing your work around on the net a few times. Great to see guys get their dream job, shows its achievable even when the economy is still at a low. Its picking up, perhaps you getting hired is a sign of things to come.
