View Full Version : Animation Communities?
Nevermore

I've been AWOL from GA for a bit, somewhat working out where I want to take my life. To that end, I think i'm really going to go for it in the animation field.
Though I'm sure in the not too distant future I will pick up where I left off with 3D modelling as my creativity will demand I make my own awesome rigs and such when I start getting decent.
Nevertheless, I can't really seem to find any decent animation communities on the interwebs. I've checked out a few, but they don't seem to be the sort of "new and seasoned animators welcome!" places.
Take GameArtisans, there is a metric ton of talent here and when the newcomers come along, help is poured out by the bucket load (<3 cookepuss).
I just need to find a similar place for animation :P.
I'm going to guess there's a number of GA members that are into such things so I figure someone must know a nice place to harness the skills and such.

11 second club is a great place to start. Lot of talent, lot of newbies as well. I'm sure you've checked it out. but def. a good place to start.

Ooo, that one got under my radar (my radar being lackluster google searches it seems :D). Looks quite a nice place to start :).
Thankies!

I think conceptart.org has an animation section. Although it moves a little slow. Could always go with 11 second and then post some stuff on ca.org for some feedback.

Yeah, i've been there already and came to the same "tumbleweed blowing in the wind" scenario you did :)

Nevermore:
The 11 Second Club (http://www.11secondclub.com/) is a great site to use, they even have a free Rigs section.
A multi-style site is ANIBOOM (http://www.aniboom.com/), not just 3-D though, but it also has competitions.
Animation Mentor (http://www.animationmentor.com/) is an online animation school, which you would have to pay for, but they have some free tips and tricks and such. Not really a community site like this.

I bought the domain game-animators.com the other day. I am presently trying to set something up thats very similar to 11second club but far more geared towards game animators. Will take a while but hopefully will have something up soon.

That sounds great Blenderhead. Something like that ise desperately needed for games industry animators.

Why not do it here for now, you could even do a monthly animation challenge, get people to donate their mini challenge characters as animatable characters,
Weapon reloads grenade throwing, take downs (MGS STYLEE) things like that.
Would be pretty cool to do game animations.

I was thinking the same thing...can't GA just expand to include animation, or could the animation site piggyback off of this domain name or something.
I don't know what the best interest would be for each site, but its just a thought.

Blenderhead, brilliant initiative!
Seriously this is like the 3rd thread ive found now, Blender I shall be in touch its high time we start an animation mini-comp to test the waters!
11-second club is a brilliant place, perhaps the only place but i always found tailoring your entry to solely body mechanics/posture (more akin to game animation) was hated on quite a bit ;-(
