Hey guys i got an art test recently and i have 3 weeks to complete it i have to complete 4 models 3 small ones and 1 big one i started working on the 3 small ones as they do not take that long to do. here are the rules of the test for each model.

Sandbag:
30 Triangles per Sand Bag.
Maximum usage of 20 Sand bags to make bunker stack, totaling 600 Triangles.
1 Diffuse Map at 128x128
1 Specular Map at 64x64
1 Normal Map at 64x64

The sand bags should be modeled as separate elements that can stand alone and be used as modular pieces
then also put together to form one bunker set piece that would be used as cover points in the game.
Barrel:
300 Triangles total.
1 Diffuse Map at 256x256
1 Specular Map at 128x128
1 Normal Map at 128x128
1 Transparency Map at 128x128 (optional)

The oil drum should be modeled with the idea that it has been lying around for a long time.
It should not look pristine or new in any fashion. This is a set piece that will be used for cover points for the player
character.

ammobox:
350 Triangles
1 Diffuse Map at 512x512
1 Specular Map at 256x256
1 Normal Map at 256x256
1 Transparency Map at 256 x 256 (optional)

The Ammo Box needs to be functionally modeled so that the top latching can be opened up.
On the interior of the box, have an unused ammo belt containing 7.62MM shells.

the last big model is a BSG-108E GUNNER ZEPPLIN i have yet to model it yet but here are the requirements:
2 Diffuse Maps, 1 at 1024x1024 (for the hull, cabin and wings)
1 at 512x512 (for details like gun turrets, propellers etc.)
2 Specular Maps, 1 at 512x512 and 1 at 256x256
2 Normal Maps, 1 at 512x512 and 1 at 256x256
2 Transparency Maps, 1 at 512x512 and 1 at 256x256
1 Emissive (self-illumination) Map at 256x256

i just need some crits.

Nice work. Crits you say? well okay. On the sandbags: It looks like they are in zero grav, make each bag look like its sagging on top of each other. The Barrel: the all brown makes it feels weird, maybe make it red and those lines on it could be rust lines, or blue as the main color maybe. the ammo box: the bullets look like they are face, make them more shinny looking, more color to them. thats about it. I like the zepplin.

hmm generally agree with burokun.
-sandbags looks like they got stone or cement inside. you need something like melt effect on them , push sides down etc.
-decreasing the normal maps effect&adding color will help with barrel for sure. try to add 3-4 different colors , like rust & base material (for plastic or metal base) & paint on it etc.
-i really like ammo box. bullets need some more work but box part looks really good. using opacity map for the black spots between bullets will make it muuuch better prob. a little detail but it would be nice to clear that totally black shadow in the middle ( i dont know how to describe it really but you get what i meant prob :P). pure black catches eye

good luck with all test ;)

Your sandbags have straight edges in them, best advice is to go grab some referances il bet you a load of money you wouldnt find a single straight edge ;)

Take into consideration, when a sandbag is filled, its filled with a soil matter. When a sandbag damn/wall is made, its usually in a rush, and almost always thrown together, your wall doesnt look like this, thats the effect your after.

Your barrels are a tad overkill on the normal map I think ;) and for your 300 triangles I dont think your using them too well, yes your barrels are very nicely rounded, but old barrels have chunks missing, are mishaped too hell, almost always have crap ground into them so take that into acount. Right now they seem more fitting for an acid barrel for doom3 or something.

Your Ammo Box is your best piece, without a wireframe its damn hard to crit, awesome ;)

And as for the zeppelin, I wish you good luck with that ;) seems an awesome concept and will probaly be a fun piece for a folio, dont screw it up ;)

(take everything I say with a huuuuuge pinch of salt, because I cant model for shit ;) )

Will not go into too much detail, most the points have been covered.

with the bunker, sandbags are usually not thrown right on top of one another, they are staked like bricks overlapping each other, this connects the wall together.

With the barrel, when it was used 8 years previous to being discarded it was an oil barrel.

Oil was poured from it, but some always spilled. So where do you put the spill marks? Everywhere? Nope, put a stain around the cap itself, and then a long stain running down the side of the barrel CLOSE to the cap. The barrel would always have been tilted in the same direction, because that would be the easiest way to pour.

The barrel used to sit on hard cement, so the bottom rim is more scratched than the top - and moreso underneath the long oil stain, as that would b the pivot point for tilting it.
