Hi All,
Thought I would post this up to see what you think going for the cartoony look influenced of course by the brilliant character work on Team Fortress 2. I have always thought the WW2 German Para uniforms looked very different and just a little bit cool. This is very early days on this one but I'm quite happy with proportions, let me know what you think. Updates to follow.
Cheers.
Very good start, theboldboy! Must say I have no idea what german paratroopers look like, but that's very good looking and fitting I think :)
Propositions are good, and there's definately nice cartoonish look in him. Though I myself would probably make his arms slightly bulkier. His legs look pretty big now, bacause of those flightshorts (or such), but his arms look small compared to them, which is slightly odd in my eyes :)
And, sorry to say... Ditch the grey line around the model, it hurts my eyes as it looks like I'm staring at something unfocused, as if I didn't have glasses ^^'

Pretty cool and smooth!
No crits from my side, keep it up!
I like what you've got so far. His boots seem to have just the right stylised flair to them. But I'll second Deto's suggestion about ditching the grey line, plus maybe having a darker tone of the background. As it is now it both pricks my eyeballs like needles, and makes me feel like I've dropped my glasses somewhere.
Still, I like the direction you are going in, and you seem to have captured TF2's spartan design. He does strike me as being a fallschirmjager :)

Thanks guy's for your comments, here is an update. Unwrapped the model and am taking it into Zbrush3 bit by bit quite a way to go yet with all the equipment, and the boots will be the worst but I think its looking o.k. so far?

i think the latest update lost a lot of the team fortress 2 look that it had before. I think it looks good but its beginning to stray from team fortress.

I agree with you mate, but I did'nt realy have any intentions of making it look too much like TF2 I was just inspired by the cartoon proportions. Nice to get away from total realism.
Cheers.

Very cool.
However, it looks like his sleeves just abruptly end at his gloves.. Create some folds to give the impression that it goes underneath or give the sleeves an elastic ending.
Also, A small suggestion would be make the ends of the gloves a bit overexcagerated. Sorta like the mad scientist you seen in cartoons where the gloves fit perfectly on the fingers but is large at the wrist area. It might fit this character :).
The sculpts are looking very good already! But I'd probably make the seams more visible and the big pockets in front seem a bit 'heavier. The folds are brilliant, just the seams and two big pockets are a littel lost behind them : )

Hi,
Again thanks for the tip's I took ShadyD's advice and made the gloves into more of a gauntlet, much better don't know what I was thinking about there.
So just a bit more zbrushing and some basic texture color just to block it out.

Indeed very damn cool, but it's hard to see the seams you carefully sculpted now :( Maybe make those a tad more obvious/deeper or texture them on the diffuse as well?
Very nice! Really looks like one of those guys i'd rather avoid =P

Hi all,
An update on the normal maps all done now about to start on the texture, pretty busy just now so it may be a while before I get round to it. Whoops just noticed I still have the belt buckle to do.

theboldboy nice work man, I like the way your sculpting in all the folds. But I think you have way to many on a few places like the calf area at the back of the leg or the front upper arm. And I think the soldiers back looks literally like a box under a shirt :P
PS: good change on the gloves
