So I've been trying to learn how to make a properly deforming character, and this is the latest body I've made. Character still has trouble deforming with his legs lifted much higher than this... Is there any way to avoid wierdness around the crotch without using bulge links or helper bones? I've noticed most current generation games just have the thy merge into the hips when it lifts up high...but that's current generation and has stricter polygon contraints. I've tried following Ancient-Pigs tutorial closely, but still am having trouble here.

Any suggestions for that oh-so common problem would be helpful, as well as any other general feedback for this model (guy in a wetsuite).
