View Full Version : Concept Ideas for Future Low Poly Work
Hey all!
I am quite new to concept art and have very little experience drawing digitally. I will practise my crude skills in this thread and hopefully learn alot about concept art. I have been watching some video tutorials by Feng Zhu recently on some technuiques in Painter/ Photoshop but that is basically everything I know about concept art.
I will post a "quick start" and show the girl I sketched during the weekend but I am more familiar with the workflow now, so I sketched the "insectoid" today.
More will come during the week.

Well for a first timer your work is certainley awsome. Better than anything I could do easily and ive tried quite a few times. The only comment I would make would be to try to color the larva body like you did the helmet and arms since they turned out real good. In the wings you might want to add a little more of a "transparent" look. Thats about as much as I would change it. Good luck finishing it and keep up the good work!
I think I am done with that bug and will bring it into my next 3D project. I will use it to learn 3ds max and Zbrush. I have been modeling in Blender for a long time but I am switching to Maya/ 3ds max now.
Here is a very quick sketch for another low poly project I have in mind.
Long time no see, I haven't had time for 3d or sketching for a long time. But now I have my winterholiday so I decided to catch up.
Since I have been working my ass off I decided to try something new and refreshing that could boost my creative skills. I thought concept painting with colors is a brilliant idea for that.
Here are my first try-outs.
Did some shape/sculpting today, I tried to use as few colors as possible and rely on flat brushes only.
Ehmm.. well, it's still in the beginning and I have just doodled my idea on paper. But I really need some help with the initial construct, composition and colorvalues. Thanks for any replies :-)

I like the composition of this last one and your flat brush paintings before that are looking good, keep up the good work. your heads have a much better shape than the first ones you posted your making good progress.
Thanks Ryuju.
I have done some cleanup now and are ready to go into details.. I am not sure what kind of ppl I will have in the foreground yet. But something is litting up that place atleast.

Hmm.. dunno.. I am not really satisfied but I will leave it for now and maybe I will finish it some day.
Wow! I have not been around here for ages, I was busy working as a developer but now I have finally started drawing again. I don't know if the thread title is the best since I hardly do any 3D anymore but I am to busy programming and I want to use my spare time to learn how to draw ^^ I figured having photos as study material is a great way to start over.
Anyway, here is what I did today. I will colorize as many as I can.

Well, you're on your way, keep studying anatomy.
The cavern image is going good too, there's a nice evolution between the first and the last versions.
Good studies to you.
Ait, so here is what I have been working on today. The reference is from a photo but I am learning a lot, what brushes to use and how to play with colors etc.
A small iteration...
And thanks for the comment Paulo Peres :)

That is money... it is really great for you to share this with us, and the concept art looks so good that it just makes me more anxious for the game to come out Nice work.
