Now that the Halloween comp is done, what should the next minicomp theme be?

I'd like to go back to a traditional character comp personally, but all suggestions are welcome!

How about "Bow and Arrow" - something like designing a weapon from medvial age.

The weapon challenge would be great in between, then maybe back to characters :)

There was couple of ideas about weapon challenge before, I don't remember the m all, but... I was thinking of having a 'three piece' weapon challenge, ie small arm, medium and heavy. Similiarly to pistol, rifle and machinegun, or short sword, long sword, bastardsword/claymore. Or maybe even anti-personnel mine, anti-vehicle mine, anti-spaceship mine. Hehe :D

Similiar examples are seen in many different kinds of games. ie UFO Enemy Unknown had pistol, rifle and heavy cannon, plasma pistol, plasma rifle and heavy plasma. Warhammer 40k has laspistols, lasguns, lascannons, bolt pistols, bolters, heavy bolters and so on, the list goes on :)

I think it would be fun enough challenge ^^

meh im kinda sick of Ancient fighters... how about new modern future fighter then?

animal fighter could be fun to, but cant imaging of something.

How about mixing 2 animals and making one of them, for example a cute dog with bird wings? and so on

Here are some Ideas:

Fantasy Animal
- make an animal up, not a combined animal, but a completely new animal.

Living Weapon
- make a creature that its only purpose it to be a weapon. kinda like what you see on Half Life.

A Self Bust
- make a bust of yourself.

Fantasy Forest
- make a small environment that has made up plants and some creatures. (could mix this with Fantasy Animal)

Sweet Gun!
- we would just make a really sweet gun, that uses something besides traditional bullets.

- bus stop
- garage
- attic
- alley
- prison cell
- asylum room
- insides of a giant creature as an environment

or, weird inventions with some backstory.

Not certain if I got the idea right.. I mean everything serves a purpose, unless made for FPS game ;)

I presume it is some sort of lifeform solely trained or bred for combat? Something like Biovore in wh40k, alien cannon sort of.. Or lame oliphants or somethinglike that in lotr movies? :D

my favorites are:
-the midievil/non-moderntech weapon idea --it's quick and easy,
-the mini-pro-wrestler/luchadore -- an awesome idea!
-impossible creatures -- this one is always a fun topic

im with joe on those 3 ideas that stand out and sound fun, any of those would rock. some one should just somehow pick one of those at random.

but if a weapons comp, i think some modernization would be cool, how about steam punk weapons! thats kind of not ordinary everyday fun that you don't see much of. nothing like putting a bunch of random stuff together then magically making it work with made up mechanics :P

A legendary animal, you can think it up or it might actually be a legendary animal like the monster of Loch Ness, or the Yeti etc. So lots of ways to go, and also lots of fun, but all in the same catagory. :D

Allow me to clarifly a bit,
The assignment would be to create a character for a fictive fighter game with low poly specs (Such as for the DS or PSP). The character however has to be an animal, no humans allowed :).
So it's basicly like that mini-wrestlers and creatures idea's in one :).

I'd like to get the next comp running in the next day or two--basically as soon as I get the time to make a brief and get an image made. In the future we can get the next comp thread running during the last day of the comp to get things moving quicker.

I really like the impossible creatures idea and this minimoo fighters idea...both are really fun ideas.

Let's say we go with minimoo; animal wrestlers. ds specs, 3 week contest... if everyones pretty cool with that, people could get started brainstorming now

alright fellas, seems like the mini-moo fighters is go-for-launch. I'm working on the brief now, but I probably won't be able to get it up till tomorrow night.

Here's the important bits:

-make an animal themed fighter/wrestler
-it seems a bit high for DS, but lets keep the 650 tri limit. its a good number.
-right now im thinking a 256x256 diffuse only comp, to encourage raw painting and pixel pushing practice. The next comp would have to be open to the normalmap/zomgFX crowd again though. how does that sound?

I'll get the brief and threads up asap, but for now just hold on to your artwork and save it to post in those threads. :) goodluck everyone!

SCjohnson--goodquestion, I addressed it in the brief, but yes, alpha and glow should be allowed--both are pretty common on the DS/PSP. Spec/bump/normal is where I'm gonna draw the line though :)
