Hey guys >_< i think im bugging alot people with this question this year... but... I'm asking myself if i allready could do some work for some money (freelancing for example)
I kinda dont think i could work allready with the lack of my skills but im still wanting to do it and earn some money for a PSP for example.
I checked Turbosquid and other forums but i dont think i will be satisfied there or anything, so anybody knows places where i could earn moneh for my work? :ack: I'm going insane over here.
Also maybe please tell me on what i should work on myself, Texturing/Modeling ( character/ envoirment/ objects) / Rigging/animating
whatever.

As long a freelancing is concered-Freelancing is a bitch these days. Probably taken by artists more qualified/exploited etc.
I definately think turbosquid isnt the answer either-i went thru that at one time or another aswell. Didnt get much.
As long as your views on what to do next-Theres always room for improvement in everything. For all its worth, i think your one if not the best 15 yr old game artist. lol.
Just was checking out the DW 2 entries and got motivated :|
For those who arent/cant do this professionally usually get depressed about the same thing. lol.
Hopefully you'll feel better in a day or two.
Now thats that.
I suggest going to different forums including those made ofr game developers/indie companys and check their wanted ads or make yourself one.
Youre BEST bet at getting some money is definately not through the internet- but where youre living right now.I had this idea when i was going thru the same thing was i decided to go to different-if not all- gaming cafe's and make deals with the managers to give me the oppurtunity to allow me/advertsie that i could put any player into the game as a model/skin and/or make custom maps and/or clan icons etc. Sounds pretty cool and i got lots of positive feedback thru my friends and frineds of friends. But i got tired instead.
Another point to think about it would be if you want to pursue this as a career. If so, i would suggest doing internships or go to local cg forums and contacting random people and posting work there. You might land a gig thru that way aswell.
As far as cheering yourself up is concerned. Probably i would say to lay off 3d for a few days and concentrate on your studies while if you feel like it- make some doodles/sketches etc in your free time. Go out with a chic/ frineds. Go out to the gym....or spend time with teh family i guess. :)
Or maybe you could team up with some programmer and make a mini game yourself. Where you'd cover the art front. When you'll see progress- that might cheer you up .
But i prefer doing the former.
Definately not the kind of reply you mightve been expecting :X
To all this-theres one thing i CAN say.....this too, shall pass.
Feel better and get resourceful :D

Man the only tip i can give you is to search from forum to forum, i got an job oportunity the soon i went in turbosquid....sadly i hadnt the time enought, but you can create and portfolio topic on turbosquid and publish your products there. Another tip is to serach at the threedy forums for paid jobs and maybe do a non paid just for portfolio enchacing....
Another tip i can give you is to make presentations of your work in demo reels (need to train rigging and animation too) and presentation images like those finished contest images out there....
One thing worth trying is approaching game companies with friendly letters (e-mails), preferably small / mid-size and telling you're aiming for gaming career and show some of your works and ask if they can give friendly advice on how to improve your skills and what your works are lacking.
Its not 'offensive' like job applying is.. Offensive as in 'Yes or no' reply is required, but more like friendly question if they had few minutes to write for you. A bored e-mail checker might actually be happy to write something else for a while :)
Pros and cons? You either get a reply or not. And if you get a reply, you either get a good advice... or they might say you're pretty good and maybe you want to do some freelancering for them. I don't know how different other countries are on this, but in finland... That's very good way to start ^^
Only con there really is that someone might say that you suck.. but I doubt it, cause it would give the place bad name :) And besides... You're not applying for a job, only asking professional studios for hints how you could get better... So theres no 'I fail'-risk involved :D

Hehe thanks man :D
I thought about this aswell, about getting money over my place. i May will have some clients.
Thought i know this is going to get me tired. Whatever. Anyway i got a small team doing a NarutoModification for Halflife, we are quite advanced as our progress is quite far, but i got sick from Naruto now so i took a breake from it since yesterday.
I got exams in this month but it wont be problem for me. Ah man It's just im doing and doing and doing all this stuff withouth great improvments as for no money. I maybe try to "grow up" to much but its not that, its just no fun after time anymore.
woops didnt noticed the other two replies:
Kalango: hehe im not searching for portofolio pieces :P i got my Blog and Photobucket account. I think its more then enough since i dont want to get hired for a "full time" job.
Deto: thanks for the advice ;D worth trying! thx

1 thing ive deffinately been thinking of lately is creating art packs for games.
Im serious. For instance the amount of time investment a tc mod needs in say hl2 is pretty huge, so why arent there a bunch of sci-fi/realism/cartoony packs of every day stuff like doors and what not. If its a stupid decision then im glad ive not gotten too it yet, but I am thinking of it as a side project.
But best of luck Try ;)
