hello,

this is the first time I post my work here :) . This is something I'm doing for my portfolio. My objectives are to create a simple figure, and then create several outfits for it. A little bit like in mmos but here, the outfit is one mesh. You can't change parts of one to put on another, as it's only a practice.

So let's begin with the images. All the following images are taken from max viewport. Here is the "naked" figure :

Here is it for the first post. I know it's looking finished, but comments and critics are welcome to improve it.

I also done some concepts for the next one. I'll post them soon.

only crit would be that his ribs are a little too much defined in the highpoly/normalmap and that the diffuse of the face makes him seem a bit stupid :p, it looks good though, there are also stupid people in this world :D

Great work. Can't wait to see it finished. My only crit is his eyes look to close, other than that looks good.

Awesome work! His face is off and doesn't have allot of character to it though.

I was seeing his face for so long, that the defaults weren't so obvious for me. He wasn't looking that stupid.:D

So I reworked his face. Tweaked the normal map a bit, and also the diffuse. The eyes are darker, and the eyebrows are better. I think it's a lot better now even if I think I'll have to work more on the diffuse more. I also think that the lightning in max viewports aren't that good. I wish it will look better in a game engine.

But now I also see that the overall shape of the head is a little bit off, and I won't change the model now. I'll be more careful next time.

are you using an ambient occlusion map to help with the details on the texture map? If you aren't I think it would help bring out the details better. Also if you look at his eyes they need to be shaded and not so perfect white.

This guy looks really good, I like the style. I can really see him in an mmo. Really solid proportions and I like the texturing. The only thing that bugs me is his face up close -- something about the mouth makes it look like it's a death mask.

Didn't had a lot of time to work on this, so this is a small update.

ShadyD -> Yes there mine. I try to improve my drawing skills too :)

Frozan -> I'll retouch the levels of the textures at the end, when I'll export my model in a game engine.

Twindragon -> I did the ambient occlusion pass, and it's a lot better now. Don't really show in the next picture, but the result is better. :thumb:


So here the pictures. I've exported my models in The roboblitz editor to see how they were looking. There something wrong with the normal map of the figure. The face and the back are looking darker. I don't know why. without the normal map, it's looking OK. The outfit looks great, I'll have to watch more carefully how the material works to have better results than this poor picture. I can't wait for UT3.

finally an update :o . Didn't had a lot of time recently, but now, I think it's going to be faster to finish it.

the modelling is finished and the uv's are done too, since beginning of the week, but I didn't took time to update. I also start the Zbrushing, and I will update faster than this time.

here's another update :) with the beginning of the normal map. I've only worked on the legs and the body. On the right arm, it's just a test of design.

I'm going to try to work on it a little bit more, and post the finished normal map really soon, with maybe the beginning of the diffuse map.

I am really liking the padded armor on this latest one, but what are those rods on his back? Depending on what they are, they might need a second higher up attachment to really secure them on his back.

The other character looks really good:thumb:

his nose is way too thin and lips are too flat, they should curve around the teeth more. overall good work on the costumes.

I'm posting just to show the final renders. I've finished them in february.

I've been working on those models from times to times, that's why I didn't update this thread.

I'm quite happy of the result, even if there's some mistake on them. I know the head is not that great, but it will be better next time.
