Sorry for not being active here the past several weeks. <Bad, CookeMod. :)>

Some of you might remember my PC woes from a couple of weeks back. Well, I've got new PCs coming, but they won't be here for a couple more weeks since they're custom configs. I am committed to helping around here though.

I'll do my best to pop in here as often as possible. Until my new rigs come in, my "attendance record" might still be a bit spotty, but things should improve for me soon.

Dell, huh. Uhm.... Uhm.... I'd rather stick my privates in a deli slicer. :p I've had some baaaad experiences with Dell machines.

I've got my desktop PCs back in place. Dealing with getting 2 or 3 new PC notebooks now. Not looking to break the bank though since most of my work will still be on the desktop.

Lenovo Thinkpads... Too underpowered for the price. Also, the case design looks clunky (circa 1993.)
Sony Vaio... Nice design. Decent specs. Slightly higher price. Heard some bad stuff about flimsy feeling case design. Plus, I've always had bad experiences with Sony hardware. Went through 3 or 4 Playstations since every one before self-destructed. Went through even more faulty Walkman/Discman products. Surprised my PSP has lasted as long as it has.
Toshiba... Not a bad price:feature ratio. Almost went with that. Opted for HP instead because Toshiba was mostly offering Intel M950 or X3100 integrated graphics at that price. Dealing with shared vid RAM sucks. Might was well draw on the screen with a Sharpie.
Gateway... Nothing particularly special, which is surprising since their desktops are pretty well designed/conceived.

Finally settled on HP though. I'm ordering about 2 or 3 HP Pavilion laptops. Never was a big fan of HPs, but they're offering the greatest bang for the buck:

HP... Core2Duo, 17" LCD, 4GB RAM, GeForce8600, 320GB, HD DVD Super Multi, webcam, ATSC/NTSC TV Tuner. Only 1.5GHz Core2Duo CPUs, but I'm not exactly going to be doing Toy Story 3 on `em. :) This is mostly for taking work on the road or for clients. Some will be used for training exercises.

Not bad for ~$1,350 per. Not willing to spend that much more than that since I've got X-mas coming up too. Don't wanna break the bank. Trust me, if I was in a "no limits" place, I'd have opted for some $4k+ Alienwares.

3 actually.

Yeah, but would you wish to work ~70 hours a week? If I take a day off a month, it's a big deal.

Besides, what you imagine is huge money at age 16 is totally different at age 33. I'm more than twice your age. At 16, I barely had money for a slice of pizza - if that. Nowadays, you put money away for a rainy day, it rains, and you spend it. The good thing about a job is that if you spend money, you can always make more.

If you think that's a lot, you should see what I spend annually on comics. :p Yep. I'm a comic dork. :@

Nope. Never been to that site. Wouldn't be the first time I've seen somebody else with that same nick. Don't know how you could've seen the avatar elsewhere though since it is a quickie Photoshop job by me.

I took a screenshot from an episode of "Scrubs" where JD & Turk dressed up as a "Multi-ethnic Siamese Doctor". I just comped some Muppet heads of Bunsen & Beaker on their bodies and played with the levels of the hands. 10 minute job, max.

Glad to see you are back, and that you just about have your computer sorted out.

Yeah, Dell has gone down hill in the last few year, at one time there were very good, but they grew too fast and customer service went to hell. They have been getting better, but i don't think they are up to the level they once were.

....Trust me, if I was in a "no limits" place, I'd have opted for some $4k+ Alienwares.

Just tough i should mention, you do know that Dell owns Alienware, bought them a year or so ago... :D

Way to literally have saved money for a rainy day.
