Why does it not allow people to make comments on my showcase items?

It's probably because you turned off those features in your options panel here:
http://www.gameartisans.org/gamecon/artist/options.php#comments

Enable your gallery comments. If this is not the problem, let me know via pm. I'll take a better look at it.
