your wow style building is a great piece, because I think the quality is higher than the other assets you have, and also it shows you can use texture space and polys efficiently. your work you did for fury is nice too, like the icons, but not so much the chests (the sacks are cool though).

I think I'd remove your sheild (not that it's bad) and your demon guy, and perhaps the chests, because they are your weaker assets, and then work on one or two new assets that will really be your best work possibly. and take pride of your use of polys and textures and show them. they will want to see, and respect you if you do it well. remember they only ever judge you on your worst piece. where I work, if they see one bad thing in someones portfolio it's usually just "Next..." and they quickly move onto the other

as a generalist you are going to want to show your versatile, so why not go for some detailed high poly hard surface modelling, perhaps a sci-fi prop or some kind, and then maybe go for another piece afterwards that shows you can use alpha maps effectively. like a small set with a tree and some foilage or something?

just ideas anyway!

also... do not display your assets on a black background man. it kills them, seriously. go for a grey, or a grey gradient! trust me on this.

You've got a bunch of N-Gons in the "wow building". While that way of displaying the wires allows it to read nicely, you've got some creasing in those areas that are rendering poorly, and game artists are going to pick that out right away as being a problem. Also showing the wires is nice, but give the polycounts as well.
Agree with mike_k, the building is strongest - put it up first. If you can get some more work done quickly to that quality start replacing the other stuff.

Hey devoid,

Thank you man,

Yes i do have alot of N-Gons in the wow building, i didnt realise, thanks for pointing that out, yeah the creasing is an issue too, I tend to rush stuff when i get to the end of it, just need to stick it out and look for all the problem areas. I should add the poly count yeah, only makes sense.

Im working on an entire environment / "Zone" for World of Warcraft atm so i think ill take your advice and replace the art as i go along.

Im not sure if i made it clear but the Temple is actually a direct replica of an existing in game model currently in wow, anyway all the stuff im working on now will be completely mine and made from scratch including concepts etc, Im assuming its far better to have that sort of stuff rather than copies of in game models?

Thanks so much for your reply man, means a lot to me!

P.S. Your game art is sick on your folio, love it! In particular the DK ;)

You have good stuff man. I'm definitely getting a strong generalist quality from it. And I love that you have icons there. That's a neat thing to see.

My only suggestion would be to spread out a little bit more maybe by getting into different techniques. Like maybe do a piece that's a hard-surface futuristic object. That way you can show some work with sub-div modeling, and more normal-map workflow stuff.

Thanks for the kind words Bigjohn, i really appreciate it!

I think im going to be heading for an Environment Artist position rather than Generalist in truth, only really just figuring this out now though,,, ill get the heading changed on the site asap.

Im starting work on an awsome new Environment which im megga stoked about. Look out for WIP in the WIP forum.

Thanks Again all ;)
