SubD issue in Maya... help?

Hey everyone! Hope someone can help me out with this.. My subD does not seem to work on anything I try in Maya 8.. yes its old! I'm getting back in the game until in a few weeks I get the latest Maya out. I push 1 and 2, and nothing seems to work at all... I see at the bottom command feedback and its saying subd division level 1 and then level 2 and what not... without any results being seen... :brick:

does any one know how to fix this? If so, thank you in advance for sharing!

never mind... found out that subD was not introduced to maya till Maya 2008 version.... oh well.. guess ill have to wait till i get maya 2010 soon...

Oh you mean the 'smooth mesh' preview by hittin the 1 and 2 keys. ya that only came out in 2008. But SubD's have have been around for awhile in Maya, the 1 and 2 keys arent SubD's they just smooth the mesh like using the Smooth tool, just a quicker easier way of doing it.
