allright, let's get this started. :)

i was thinking about a funky main character whos only job is being cool and lazy, hanging around at tropic beaches and ride some waves. i always liked the idea of a funny surfing game and combining this with cool characters, a cool environment and a simple but funny story is what i'll try to do here.

the whole style will be inspired by... let's throw in some keywords:
tiki, lounge, hawaii, voodoo, tropical, polynesian, lilo & stitch, surfing, the beach boys, rapa nui, dr. no, ...

so first i nailed down the look of our hero - arenui - to get a basis. i went from human-like to a more stylized anatomy, which fits better imho.
i also tried to be aware of what he may does with his body, what type of missions he has to accomplish, and so on. always thinking functional too...

and some doodles, trying to get a feeling for the world he is living in. the guy with the mask may serves as the evil big boss, sending evil curses from his evil volcano island. just an idea....

looking nice man... The shark dude kinda reminds me of sonic a bit. Keep it up yo.

This is looking great...I have only one suggestion to think about...the large dorsel fin on the back. This is reading like a shark at the head and nose but loses it past the eyes a bit...looks more like a wedge...perhaps a seperation between the head and the dominant back fin...might also create an interesting silouhette element rather than the clean line it has now. Just a thought, looks great otherwise. Great start.

Very unique character. I agree with the comment regarding the head and fin being too connected. Looks like your building up a collection of nice images to support the feeling of this character. I can get a good feeling of personality from the drawings. I'd try and do some concepts of him from perspective or front on though.

thanks for your suggestions and critique! i agree and will try to post the new sketches in the next days. i'm currently moving to a new flat and theres a lot of work to do... barely have the time to check emails.

i never heard about that movie, but now my idea really seems like a total ripoff. hope you're the only one thinking about "surf's up".

I almost did a tiki guy for this one. Dont wory about the surfs up as being a rip off look at it for reference. most all of our ideas have influances may it be books movies comics or even other videogames just do your best to make it you're creation. just some ideas for the necklace and a weapon to give it that hawian feel

love the board shorts and the rash guard one. you could make a play of the body glove logo and make it a fin that would be funny

You really nailed the Nintendo feel, this shark fella would fit perfectly in Animal Crossing. He would also fit in Smash bros. Digging the simple yet carefully detailed style:approve: Though we are rivals I am rooting for you. Good luck.

a bite out of his board perhaps? love the first sketches, my favorite is the 3/4ths from behind with the arms. the fin arms are quite humorous though.

For some reason this thing reminds me a bit of the concept stuff from Surf's Up...awesome stuff...has a real fun feel to it like that. Especially with the tiki and volcano stuff worked in. Very nice idea.
