View Full Version : WIP Licker monster
Nope, this is not from resident evil :)
I'm helping some guys with a mod,and they had some nice concept design. This was one of them. Here's my model with nmap at 5000 tris with 1 1024 diffuse spec and nmap.
I'm still working on the texture and trying to give it more details.I'd apprisciate some feedback on the overall look and how to improve it :P
PS,there is some bad deformation due to quick rigging,i havnt fixed anything in it yet...

Not quite sure what it is you're going for exactly, but if you want to make it "grosser" you could add some muscle striations, maybe some open wounds with high specular, and let some bone show through (especially that spine and that sternum). If you want it to look "rotten" congregate some whitish specles on certain parts. You could probably also spend some polies on the tongue and add some more loops so it's smoother, seeing as that's the primary feature.
I guess to me it looks like his neck and head have been torn open while the rest of him looks like red skin.
But overall, I think it's great. Nice work.

I would like to see a flat render, wires, and the texture sheets to better crit this.

I assume hes supposed to look as though hes had the skin flayed off of him? The flat red is overwhelming. Paint in some muscle fibers, and have some bones, tendons/connective tissue in there. The ribcage shape seems a bit off. its retaining too much of the tube shape right now. round it out a bit more. I dont know which animal you want this to be based off of more, but i know with humans at least the ribcage starts to narrow toward the top, near the shoulders. I think part of whats throwing it off is he;s lacking pectoral muscles.

The model itself good enough. It's the texture that's gumming up the works. It isn't bad per se, but it is currently little more than a base for something more detailed. Its just pretty flat and sparsely detailed right now.
Apart from the texture itself. If you have access to ZBrush or Silo, I'd actually like to see you take this to the next level and throw in some normal map detail.

I like the idea, but for it to really sell I'd have the neck area much more detailed myself.
Show ripped skin, snapped tendons and such. Right now it looks all very smooth, pretty much a really nice base go work with.
Go in and give this guy the sculpting loving it deserves to really bring out the best.
Also if this is going to be it's default position (pose), why not go in and put extra emphasis on certain muscles under strain? You can imagine a body in this pose has some really defined tendons and muscles stretching and bulging underneath the skin.
So far so good tho'
thanks pestibug! :)
I am really thinking on getting it back at zbrush and add some tendons.i forgot to do them before heh

oh wait, maybe you can add teeth to his neck? like his jaw was ripped off, but somehow he had some teeth in his neck, or something ;) :p
mm its based on given concept..so no teeth eheheh :)

He's shaping up nice, but still his neck looks way to clean, Maybe the concept dictates a smooth neck, but otherwise here's a famous 'jawless' example:
http://www.mooncostumes.com/image/17117
Famous zombie from Day of the dead.
See how there's small detail of torn skin and layers of roughly torn flesh? To me the head and neck are the focus point of this model.
That should be the part that really pops out at ya.
Ow,and also, right now the tongue is rather boring, look at your own tongue, it's covered with tiny lumps and such. Add some of those to this guy's tongue.
So far very nice, and if the concept is all about a smooth neck, then I'll leave it alone from now :)
ehhe thankyou for teh pic,i now understand what you mean.I'll absolutely do that and work on his toungue.

Frozan:
Hey:)
Its actually not a MOD. Its an standalone independant game. Its a Multiplayer Online Co-op survival/horror FPS.
We've got oour own concept artists (Razorb and Cold here in forums),
We've got Chris- the lead programmer whose working on all the programming mainly (accompanied by 2 other fellows).
We;ve got Myself, Genc, Jonas, Razorb, Cold, Kelpt and Spector handling the game assests including the characters, weapons, props etc. Spector and raz mainly involved in making the levels through gtk Radiant.
We're using the engine called DarkPLaces (Heavily Modified version of the original Quake engine).
Chris being teh mastermind behind all this. This is actually the following game from following the three The Hunted games made mainly by chris himself.
Genc always prefer calling this a MOD XD
Link to the first game:

oh and just so you guys know the old game (the hunted 1 and 2) will be absolutely nothing like this .. the engine itself has come along way since then plus finally a proper full team of us working on this :) the old one was mainly just done by a coder :o so expect great things !
