I wouldn't waste money on a book about perspective as it's so basic a concept.
Delve into the internet for some perspective tutorials and then spend some serious time outside with a pad and pencil.
You would benefit far more by doing than by following.
Life drawing is a bit different but the world is all around you and never complains that you're taking too long. . .

this is a great book for anybody looking to learn how to do perspective.

i NEED it TOO
I took a class where the Techniques of Feng Zhu Vol 3: Fundamentals of Shot Design for Environments (http://www.thegnomonworkshop.com/dvds/fzh03.html) DVD was used as a course text. It covers perspective fundamentals, but also gets into techniques for establishing depth like creating a fore-/middle-/background with dark/mid/light values, etc. I liked it a lot. Plus you get to see Zhu go to town making cool stuff.

A bit late to this thread, but hopefully I can help.
Perspective for Comic Book Artists (http://www.amazon.com/Perspective-Comic-Book-Artists-Professional/dp/0823005674/) is a cool book. Its actually told in comic book form so it's a fun way to learn perspective. Another book I would look into is Perspective Made Easy (http://www.amazon.com/Perspective-Made-Easy-Ernest-Norling/dp/0486404730/). It's small, cheap, and very handy.
As for the Gnomon DVDs I agree that Feng is awesome, but Scott Robertson's DVDs are brilliant for learning perspective. The Techniques of Scott Robertson Volume 1: Basic Perspective Form Drawing (http://thegnomonworkshop.com/dvds/sro01.html) is JUST about perspective! Robertson knows his shit and he's a great teacher... going through the DVD and practicing along with the lecture you'll learn HOW and WHY. His other DVDs are great as well.

i would say the internet would be a good place to start, theres alot of good info all over the web on drawing perspective. for drawing environments, you usually only need 1, 2, and 3 point perspective. in 4, 5, and 6 point perspective, things get complicated and all the lines begin to curve between 2 opposite points on the horizon, infinitly away from your viewpoint, but you can draw things like panoramas and tall buildings with 4 point and you can draw reflections in spheres and fish eye views in 5 and 6 point perspective. the way we truly see the world is always in 6 point perspective (no lines are ever viewed as perfectly straight), but the rest are close aproximations. but none of this matters if you have access to any simnple 3d modelling program. just render out some basic shapes, similar to what your trying to draw, and photoshop over them. it should give you mathmatically perfect 6 point perspective. its hard to tell that the lines are curved until you crank up the field of view, but they definitly are.
