Yup, this is the engine I'm using for my personal game. It's ridiculously flexible and well written, and owns Torque in terms of the code and it's flexibility. The downside is that development is Mac only for now. The final game can be output to PC compatible, but the engine itself for making the game requires Mac OSX.

I still prefere shockwave3D. although the engine of shockwave3D is terrible, the availability of the player is much higher than the availability of any other comparable player... however - i hope unity will gain ground

What the frick poop? I thought you were going to prove the power of a non PS engine with torque?

A WIN version of U3d is waaay down the roadmap. So windows folks should not check it out lest they be forced to weep uncontrollably at what they can't have.
Not only that, quite a few of their users are very much against such a port for some reason.

Of course, it makes sense. It's never been good for any product to be able to be used by as many users as possible. It makes total sense. Less users = more profit.

Either that, or Mac users are just being the way Mac users can be sometimes. A bit stuck up. No, wait! Wait! Some of my best friends are Mac users, so it's okay for me to generally slander a whole user base.

Plus, I have an iPod.

Im quite interested in this too and I cant find any info about the indie version. I heard from someone that the indie version doesnt have all the fancyness like dynamic shadows but has everything else??

It doesnt make sense not having it on windows, especially since the games made in the engine work so well on windows.

heres the business from my point of view

a few elite users = high price = lots of profit but hardly any public exposure
or
thousands of average users = competitive price = much more profit and unity becomes industry standard even being as common as flash

Id personally like to see unity succeed and keeping it mac only isnt helping that.

well part of the reason unity's so slick is they develop for fixed hardware :) i bet the thought of porting it to windows scares the crap out of the developers.

i've been back on forth on purchasing a license, but don't know how much longer i want to be on a mac. give me a dell workstation anytime, and C4 engine (also $200)!

thanks for reminding me of this one.

I've been interested for awhile in making some kind of 2d casual game, but I haven't gotten past browsing the website of torque, etc.

is the 30-day demo crippled or is it full-featured?

as far as I can tell its just as crippled as the indie version is. No shadows or any fancy bloom etc type stuff and Im not sure if this unity logo on the bottom corner will go away unless you buy professional?

Thinking of web browser game engines remind of one I found online. Im don't think it's the most powerful I the one I saw was called the jmonkeyengine, it uses java for coding and seems to have some potential.

http://jmonkeyengine.com

I don't know what it's limits are but it's just I'd bring up if it could be useful.
