linkdin and facebook links not working

Is there specific syntax used for linkdin and facebook links that appear at the bottom of each post? My links do not work, and this appears to be true for quite a few people.

I copied the link when I view my profile signed in, however, perhaps it doesn't work that way? I can't view my profile when I'm not signed in and view via google.

If i remember correctly, you have to configure your LinkedIN to have a public profil in order to have an "external adress".
Check mine as exemple.

where are those settings? I only have a basic account.

I have a basic account too.
When you edit your profil, go to "Public profil" (under "actual job", "previous jobs", website etc.) then click to modify (or add in your case)

You enter here "http://www.linkedin.com/profile/public-profile-settings"
then on the right you have to set your profil "public" (every one can see it) and then set your URL pf your profil.

That worked. Had to create a new url of my name than linked to that. Facebook still doesn't work. Maybe my privacy settings are too strong.

I don't use facebook: sorry mate I can't answer for this one. :/
But I guess it's quite the same thing.
