BHG Challenge | Evan Smith | Living Mountain

Evan Smith has entered the competition!
The title says it all. It's an massive creature of earth and stone as large as a mountain. I'm going to try and reinforce his enormous size by establishing a small forest ecosystem on his shoulders and back and adding details like different sedimentary layers of rock to his surface and textures.

Looks like his shoulders and back are a giant hill with trees. Cool!
It would be really funny to add a few animals living on his back. Kinda like how birds roost on elephants, rhinos, etc but maybe taken to a higher mamal level :) Just a thought.

Thanks Marcus! :) It's still in the rough stages at the moment but thats the general idea i'm going for. The key to him will be creating a realistic looking forest on his back without going over budget.
Kongni - I was thinking about something like that, I like the idea, but will have to see how much can be squeesed in, thanks! :)
Here is a larger version of the the quick sketch i made to start the thread, I'm not sure if i'll stick with this look but definately like the forested look on top to help establish his scale.
The "hoodie" is cool. He can turn his head without shifting the landscape. Maybe slightly block in the overall shape of the abs; to me, it kinda looks its wearing thick briefs without those defines. Regardless, it still looks like it will smack a mean crab along with Settler and Atlas.

Love the painting, really feels like craggy, living rock. Looking forward to your next pass...

I like how he turns out ... and espeachially the trees on his neck.
Just the Legs and foot are looking a littlebit diffrent from the other body.

cool! you have the sedimentary in mind, but maybe a bit of moss/lichen stuff would look cool too? just a suggestion! nice design

Thanks for the input guys!
Gods Phoenix - It does sorta look hoodie like now that you mentioned it lol. I agree with you about the ab area, I'll probably be reworking the bottom half of him yet, thanks.
Monkuk - Thanks man :) I'll have to finish up my cgchat pocket monster entry first, but then I'll get some more concepting on this guy done and refine his look
ChrRambow - Glad you like it! thanks for the input on the legs I agree. I get a sculpted vibe when i look at them and I want them to look more craggy and natural to match the top (well as natural as a giant walking mountain can look that is lol :p)
Kurocrash - Thanks for the suggestion I was thinking along those lines as well although I only hinted at it in the concept with a touch of green color, but I plan on having all kinds of great detail like that in the textures. I'm even toying with the idea of giving him for moss like facial growth or stuble lol
I'm also exploring the idea of the sedimentary layers. I might design him as having a hard exterior crust as an outer layer (which would be the equivalent of armor) probably covering the main Torso, hands and feet (perhaps thighs too) and then in between and for the head have a different contrasting layer of rock to break up the character and give him a broader range of color

I had a similar idea at first which means, Kick ass :)
I agree with the previous post about the ab-area.

Nice work. Sort of reminds me of something from 'The Neverending Story' (I think, although I might have it confused with something else).
This has excellent potential - I can picture it now! Are you planning on normal mapping this?

Nice start! The only thing that stands out to me in a bad way is the way you handled the area where the top of the boots and the leg meet.
Good luck!

Great concept the trees really sell the scale on this.
