hey,
Here's a model I'm working on for the last...40 minutes. I appreciate critiques and comments.
Currently it's at 666 polygons (no kidding).
Do you guyes think that I should attach the baloon to the body ingame, with rope dynamics and such ? I will probably be using this in a HL2 mod. (this is the user avatar)

I would have added another row of polygons (or distribute the current ones) under the balloon, it is needed to get the "flappy" proporty of billowing air.
Looking nice sofar. I'm a sucker for airships.

What are your limits and goals for this model? Not sure what to say because if you can't afford to put in more polies, your choices will be limited.
Nonetheless, nice start. If you can afford it, I would agree with Bjorn. More polies on the balloon would be great. Additionally, perhaps make into more of a missile/bomb shape. If you make it totally round on both ends, it would look little strange. Making one end look like a 'front' would be a great addition.
Keep it up!:)

well my plan is: I'll model all the stuff needed and texture, rig and animate them then start a mod project with all art assets completed (for portfolio).
Since only one ship will be rendered each frame, I guess I can get away with 2000 polygons. It'll be a simple game, just strolling around and collecting stuff, avoiding objects and such. nothing original in the game design.
Thanks guys, I'll be updating the model this week when I got the time.

ahh, thanks for the details. I love airships of any kind. FF9 made an artbook (http://listayueyoh.iespana.es/mangas_escaneados/caratulas/ffix-artbook000%20cover.jpg)and they showcased a few of their airships in it. This book is one of my all time favorites.
Here are some samples of their airships:

Looking forward to an update:)
