Yeah - Im in.

This is a first draft kinda thing. I am thinking a mutant armed with a big, magic pipe wrench, banging away at giant robots.
The wrench is magic, because it holds a piece of the original ultimate weapon.

just so you know. Wrenches actually come in giant sizes

By the way, I am thinking an anti-hero, mutant, warlord/clericon type, wielding holy/lightning type of power

Thanks for the comment guys. It's pretty clear what you like and don't, so with that in mind, I thought I would take my first idea a bit further, and made this.
About 2-3 hours photoshop.

But...it was made to tighten bolts! Not Rend them ASUNDER! Your MAD SIR!!! I really dig the first guy, hes a brute but he is so haunting and eerie. Also unique.
BTW the robots are just, if not more terrifying. :)

Thanks for the comments guys. I am glad that the irony of using the wrench against the machines is not lost on you. Not that it is overly subtle, but you never know :)
Anyway - we are still early in the competition, and my design will hopefully evolve to something better. I will keep the wrench tho.

By the way, I deleted the drawing that noone could stand. I couldn't stand to look at it myself. I also updated the color version of the guy.

Well - I thought it was about to to try a slightly different aproach. This guy is definatly a mutant. Shaman of some sort. I guess that makes him a clericon.

Its most definitely working, fantastic stuff.

the new hunchback propotions are spot on. I think since you have the guy so wrapped in stuff right now and mostly a warm pallete the wrench could benefit from some more of the same details and maybe some rust sections would tie them together better.

Cool work man !
I'd give a little more attention to the face since it's one of the first things people will look at. Maybe give some hints on the character's personality or something.
Anyway, stay busy man !

Thanks for the comments guys. And from such heavy contenders as well. I am blushing here.

theoldboy: Thanks man. Looking forward to seeing more of your highlander

GutsandBolts: I hear you. Good pointers. I definatly need to work on the material for the wrench. How's that centaur coming along?

VL:IL: You are right of course. I think I am gonna do a bunch of faces, and hopefully have people here help me pick on out. Can't wait to see where you will go from now with your mutant concepts.

Anyway - I am planning to have a drawing session over the weekend, with a mate of mine who has entered the 3d part of the competition. Hopefully alot of work will come out of that. If we can stay of the booze that is. Fingers crossed.

Wow...great job on the character.
Love the whole mutated post apocalypse creature design...hmmm just a thought...I think you should try a multiple headed creature base on this character ... :-) once again...great job so far,Von!

Hi guys.

It has been a few weeks since I posted something. I apologize. I got swamped with work and personal stuff, and for some reason I lost my inspiration a little bit.
But I just made a little update, and I wanted to share it with you.
I think It is sort of a mix between the ideas I have drawn up to this point, and I am thinking, that I might have something that is very close to what I want to do.

Feel free to crit the hell out of it.

Cheers

:thumb: Hmm, I kind of liked your 1st concept a bit more. The guy with a horn on his head curving down his back and that action image was so cool.... Can't wait to see what you choose....:thumb: :)

Well - I had some time on my hands today, and I put this drawing together.
I think I am gonna stick with this design.
Now all I have to do is do the drawings that the competion actually requires.

...Sigh...

Anywho - I actually look forward to do the money shot picture of him, so that's not to bad, if I can find the time.

So - to sum things up, and explain my design ideas.

He is a warlord type character, with holy power. The wrench he is wielding, is holding a piece of the original ultimate weapon in it's "fingers".
Even tho the weapons effect is fading, the piece still has the power to grant the wrench holy power. But only because, our hero, is one of the few beings who, in spite of his lack of intelligence, is tuned in to the cosmos, which I interpret to be some kind of deity in itself, hence the holy power... or something :)

My characters background is, that he is a mutant, scavenger type of person. Living on a postapocalyptic planet. One day he comes across a shard of the original ultimate weapon, and bom-bada-bing, he gets his powers, and sets of to save his planet and the universe.

I guess he is a new take on the classic paladin, dungeons and dragons, type of character. You dig?
I wanted him to express brute, stupid force, yet still have a subtle touch of noble character.

You are welcome to crit the hell out of it, but I don't know if it will do you any good.... muwahahaha

This style of this is beautiful, I love the painted feel and lighting on this - do you know where you'll stamp the team logo?

Thanks for the comments.

ZDCoe - I think I am going to put the GA logo on his shoulder piece, which I am going to design as a robot head. Sort of a war trophy turned into armor piece.

such a tough guy ) I like the head weared closed helmet (in the upper right corner of the first pic) it looks so brutal and firce! it leaves no doubts that it's a war machine we see not a worker! )))

Damn, I love the weapon idea and the postapocalyptic setting. Great sketches too - if he's a scavenger tho, it might be cool to have more items and pieces of things that he found either attached to him or part of his armor - maybe make his leg gear less symmetrical too.

Cool stuff man!

Too bad you couldn't finish, fella! This is a strong entry and one of my favs. (Maybe because i wear dreadlocks and identify myself a bit with that guy? Haha!) Would be nice if you finish it anyway - would make a great portfolio piece.

Thanks Dario. It's definatly a shame, but thats how it goes sometime.
I am thinking that I will finnish the actionsshot at some point.
Right after I finnish all the other half-done pieces I have :) I would look nice in the portfolio indeed.
