so...here you go. not everything is brand new but the first post should give you an idea of what i aim for. more coming soon!
oh and as you see i prefer traditional medias sometimes. gives me more control over my workflow. the bird skull is painted with oils, the animals down there are painted with gouache.

Glad to see another talented concept artist join gameartisans. Your future critiques will benefit all, especially, me hehe:lucky:
Dario

-frozan: thanks for the compliments. i don't use photoshop, so the 4th one is made with painter. i prefer painter because of the simulation of traditional medias. feels more familiar to me...but i don't wan't to start another boring discussion about the pros and contras. ;)
-taehoon: muchas gracias, senhor! i wish i would understand how to model at least a cube...so let's say we're equal.
-antimagic: looking forward for your work! and thanks for the nice comment, i hope my critiques are usefull.
i bought a new sketchbook some days ago and after i spent a day drawing in the park, i scanned the first two pages. hope you dig!

anatomy is very fun
u have nice stroke, are u using mechanic or wood pencil?
btw is the ear supposed to be that big?
Exelent studies, I enjoyed watching these images!
The profile portrait of that african woman with the wierd neck guard with the comment; - emulate your life! - is my favorite..
Thanks for sharing these with us!
Dario
05-31-2007, 03:30 AM
-xvampire: im only using a 2b wood pencil. the mechanical doesn't give me as much control as the normal one. sounds weird, but i like the option to be more rough at some points. the ear of that woman could be drawn too big, but i think it quite ok...the upper half of the skull is left and they cut away the whole left side of the face, so i think its an impression caused by that. and still, she had a very small face.
-evil: thanks for sharing your thoughts! amusing that the african woman is one of the few which were drawn without any reference, so thanks for mentioning. :)
i still have some left...

i was very busy the last days so i couldn't make anything very creative, but i want to show you this little portrait that i intended to paint as tone study. i realised how fast i can get a solid result if i just concentrate on the right tones, so i will definitely do more exercises like this.

Dario
10-29-2007, 12:46 PM
thanks for the comments, folks!
-marcus: i was painting some landscape studies with gouache recently - will show that with the next post. :)
-defeat: i only use a normal 2b wood pencil. sometimes i switch to hb, but that depends on the paper. the softer the paper, the more i need a harder pencil to shade clean.
a little portrait study
http://www.dariocoelho.com/gallery/studies/mogo.jpg
and my first lifedrawing session with my laptop. worth the try! unfortunately i had to explain a lot of people what the heck i am doing with that computer and the funny pencil - so i couldn't concentrate too much after the first two paintings.

i don't think it's worth to show in a new thread so i'm posting it here in my sketching thread.
an illustration i painted during the last days. my entry for the monthly gnomon contest with the theme "dearly departed". the idea isn't anything special, but it was fun to paint and i could use some new tricks and techniques i was thinking about.

this latest stuff is incredible. I love the way its all so well realised, like in every character there was a clear goal. My sketches go all over the place sometimes and dont look very clear or intentional in some cases. Still got a long way to go, wish I had the time to do more sketching

thanks for your comments! :)
-ged: honestly, i mostly sketch random stuff too. especially those last two renderings were totally free. in my faster sketches i need to have at least a rough idea of where i'm heading to, but in the end it all come out of random shapes. i think the execution itself seems so easy because i tend to think more about the next line than actually drawing. sometimes... sometimes i rush over the paper like a tornado. depends on the mood as always.
-kalango: olha! esta ai, o camarao dormindo. ;)
-alchemist: versatility can be a curse too sometimes. it's very hard for me to do the same thing over and over again, so i tend to switch style, medium, theme, etc. a lot. because of this it takes longer for me to be specialized or lets say better in one of those areas. i'm just feeling bored quite fast by repeating... and i'm sure it's good to explore new fields.
