Hello everyone. Semester's finally out... So I'm in this one for sure.

This is the Terror and the Witch...
Northern Inuit tribes tell of a legend of the ice bear known by the locals simply as The Terror. Legend has it that in the vast frozen arctic walked an young Inuit woman, who was taken by sailors on an expedition through the northern passage. She was tortured, raped and left for dead on the frozen tundra. Before she died, she cursed herself, forever damning her soul to roam the north in search of revenge as she summons the great northern bear from the depths of the ice itself to do her bidding...

On that note, this is the first concept for my entry. I decided to challenge myself and want to try and tackle fur on a low poly character. Actually I have to admit, I don't even know where to begin with that. Oh well, I'll worry about that when the time comes. All of the entries so far cool awesome, this is one of the coolest contests I've seen in a while... (thanks Fred)

Anyway, I'll add more concepts for the model, and for the witch herself soon.

oh... and if anyone has any ideas or suggestions, any at all, please feel free to let loose. I could use a helping hand on the fur thing... any ideas on that would be extremely helpfulll.http://i36.photobucket.com/albums/e25/jlkells/initial_concept.jpg

Yeah James!!!!!!!!!! Glad to see you entering this one :)

No comments at this point except that I really like the ice shards coming off of his back.
Gogogogo!

Hi James, nice to see you entering this one:)

So far, you managed to produce a wicked concept man. The ice mounds on his back was a very nice touch. This concept reminds me of a joke picture. If you run out of time, you can always enter a white sheet and say, here is my polar bear in a snow storm:p (maybe put in a black nose somewhere on the page hehe)

Here is how someone else approached fur. Hope this helps a little

i really like the bear & the ice mounds are nice. i know polar bears aren't necessarily super hairy because they swim, and he busts through the ice, but i'd suggest maybe making his fur a little thicker, longer than usual. not poofy, but hanging down & tight to the body, but just to kind of vary it a little bit more than your average polar bear. i'm thinking kind of like a wolverine's or a badger's fur i guess. kind of just dusting the snow/ice beneath him. also, maybe play with a glow map. if this is part of a curse, maybe kind of play up a spirit beast idea by making the fur or eyes glow?
these are just suggestions though. it looks great as is.

I agree with kurocrash. I think the polar bear is a great idea! but it does just look like a average polar bear. The only thing attributing to the scale is the human figure...it doesn't look "huge" without the human. Maybe some nappy, moldy hair under his belly? Some thing to make him look like like he has been around for years and that age would explain why he is huge.

Good concept! Can't wait to see it in 3D!
