So what does everyone think about the licensing to the creation of the gears of war movie?
I for a fact think it will be good. i think the movie industry has finally figured it out that they have to have to games people helping them in order to get the same feel, for i.e Silent hill.
as such Cliffy B is the lead producer on the project. Let the i think its a bad idea vs i think its a good idea ensue!
Doom
I have to say this because "Doom" is too short a post.
really, I have yet to see a good video game movie. A few are decent, like Silent Hill or the 1st Resident Evil, but that's about it. GoW, while looks great, doesn't contain alot of game or depth. Not much movie material there.

I agree with Hito on this and he mentioned the only game movies I liked and the one I wanted my money back on Doom. ;)

I prefer they have
RE feel
not repeating , but story inside story
but also still following the game elements

I think some of the game movies are rather decent. Doom wasn't that bad was it? I liked the fight in the end. Plus, resident evil along with tomb raider weren't complete busts too.
I guess I like too much hehe

hmmm... i don't think that its quite movie material really.... but since they are planning it... it should be done using the game's engine! personally, the game looks so good on the 360, i think that the "game-engine" version would be better than a CG or "FMV"{?} types thing......
imagine Unreal Tournament 3 becoming a movie?
or Hellgate London?
hmm....

Hell gate would be cooler for sure. I am sure even more games will turn into movies in the near future. Hollywood is desperate to make a buck on anything. I wouldn't be surprised if sims was turned into a movie

call me a killjoy, but i hate video game movies. ok, maybe hate's strong. but unless you're watching old ones like street fighter or super mario bros. or hell, double dragon for some sort of ironic kitsch goofiness, watch-&-laugh factor; the more recent ones are unwatchable. and if uwe boll is somehow connected, friggin' run.
but seriously. it's not like adapting a book. why watch something you could just play to begin with? $10+ to sit in a theater & just watch for 2 hours vs. approx $50 to become a participant for hours on end & get a different experience each time? (yeah yeah yeah... rentals & all that...) mind you I'm not necessarily advocating playing games adapted from movies either. less you've got an N64 handy.
probably just being overly cynical here though

Movies based on games are like snacks one hour before dinner, they are just there to fill a temporary crave. Some are entertaining some aren't.
