Hey! The top two images are renders of my old Dominancewar character. I started playing with some render techniques - after finding I knew nothing when it came to the end of this comp. The other guy is a game character I made called Merg.
I'm thinking of doing a reworking of the texture too (for the old dom war character) but I'm waiting on a new pc before I get started on that :)
non game stuff that I thought I'd sneak in!! _>

Thanks guys!
In answer to Frozan.. well I exported chunks of the mesh (I used the faces selection tool in mudbox and assigned 'selections')
I would import one chunk at a time, with bounding box visibility set on.
Once loaded.. SAVE!
Then I would fire up polycruncher from moo tools! It does a great job reducing polycounts and retaining detail. If the object was too heavy to do that.. then I would divide it again in max.. still working with bounding box only visible.
I did this on a crappy p4 3ghz machine with 1 gig ram and a x800 radeon card I borrowed from a friend. Still waiting for the parts for my new pc.. !
Hope that helps some people! Slow.. but successful method. If anyone has any tips let me know:)

Shinja, yeah its at sub'd level 5. I havent really turned up the detail on that subdivision yet but I will be adding the surface skin details :) - checked out your website Shinja, great stufff!
Latest additions are two rough concepts I did yesterday. Me and a few friends are putting together a prototype and we need a generic zombie soldier. Still feel there is room for pushing the boundaries a little with them..

nice work in here [as always] so i won't go into detailing how awesome all the stuff looks. As for the concepts, looking interesting at the moment, but if they're rising back from the dead, i'd like to see more decay? like perhaps their rotting brains are exposed and inhabited by maggots or something?
otherwise, they look interesting... can't wait to see some MP-40s strapped around their backs.
oh, and flip the cross upside down. Just thought that zombies wouldn't really have crucifixes would they?
hope u like my advice. its urs to follow or not, they're just my thoughts.

Sweetness Tim, you've really come a long way, you have really taken to sculpting like a fish to water! Quick question, how long does it take to do a high detail sculpt, for me it takes roughly 6 to 8 hours to do sculpt something along the lines of your scar face guy. Mind you I'm still using Z-brush "no layers yet"! Terrific work across the board and I'm looking forward to mass effect!

http://i38.photobucket.com/albums/e128/bdimonkey/SuperzombisoldaT3.jpg
Thanks for the advice Indian boy :) I'm certainly not going for the traditional idea of risen zombs from the ground - more of a nightmarish vision of warped soldiers (behave like zombies). But I certainly will be adding decay/dirt as I make more designs. I totally plan on conceptualizing some with more flesh exposed - for the variation and potential fun that can be explored with that!
Thanks Marcus, I couldnt give you any idea on time.. when I am at home I get distracted so easily loose concentration. In a work situation with a deadline.. well I make sure I hit that.. in my free time with no deadlines.. I take as long as I want.. no pressure = slower work from me :)
I think you could definately make a good head sculpt in a single day! But from my experience heads tend to get lots of scrutiny so if u have the time, use it!

Sarge is lookin hard, my only comment there would be maybe size down the bolts some... they kinda take away from his size. Shoulder pad and chest piece are sexy UT stylin, love it! Anything in particular this dude is supposed to do? Might help to throw out crits and ideas :)

just a quick but fun scribb
sarge "Grizzled and scarred by a lifetime of combat, Sarge rightfully claims to be a master of modern warfare. He's all the war-hero sargents you can think of rolled into one and has the arrogance to prove it."
Miguelito - sure I'll post some wires - there very little floating stuff
onelung - yeah I did think about that. Maybe if the mood strikes me ;)
I wanted the bolts to big - they help tie things together and are read well from a distance but sure I can see your point about detracting from his size.

Oh you! So pro, I love it. The metal work is the best part I think. The skin could stand to have a noise brush gone over it that reddens in the diffuse, kills the spec in the spec map, and dents down in the normal (pores), and I'd have liked to see real geo for the plates on the thighs, but minor crits of course.
Love the face and overall colors.

I am loving the armor on Sarge. He looks beautiful. (chuckle). But his skin feels too yellow (though not being racist it's kind of a funny thing to say especially since it's coming from me...an asian). So yea, I think you need more red and brown in the skin and more contrast in the hair. The hair looks too flat compared to everything else...and "glowy" which makes it stand out more than anything else in the shot. I'm squinting and it's really "there". Hopefully I'm making sense. Love your work man. As always.

There was a thread going on over at Polycount last year all with updated Quake 3 concepts and models. I remember an incredible "Patriot" model by Pior. You should post some of your pieces there (http://boards.polycount.net/showflat.php?Cat=0&Number=91730&an=0&page=0#Post91730) too!

crazy cool model man, dig the idea. The wobbly fingers feel soft in detail compared to the other parts of the body. Also, might be nice if the chest skin either stretched onto the arms (protruding outta the chest) or if the chest caved in around them, like the skin around the arm that covers the crotch, which looks fantastic. thanks for sharing. Rasmus - I agree the legs need to a be longer - and I did increas them but they have lost some of the length with all the tweaks I did tonight. The face could definitely be meaner and I was experimenting with that also but haven't come found something that captures the feel of the features I want him to have that also gives him the right expression.
Guess I just learned I need to do some expression studys! Weeeee

wow... totally awesome stuff. I really love it.
Now, just so I feel a little bit useful, I'll try and give you a little crit. The upper part of the torso feels a little stiff. For example, if you look above the belly-button to the clavicle, you can pretty much draw a perfectly straight line through the center of the abs. I think if you made that line a bit more curvy it will add a lot of punch. Just my 2cents
But I really do love it. It goes in my Awesome folder :)

Man I really like the army officer guy. Not sure what army he would belong to. Looks like soviet or nazi or something... one of those bad guys. That's probably a good thing. He reads like a he's from one of those "bad-guy" armies without any actual upfront thing pointing at it.
His hat details feel a bit muddy though. Especially compared to how crisp the rest of the head's details are. Those emblems on it are probably what's doing it. I think they'd be better off as separate objects.
Good stuff man. I like it whenever I get an email saying this thread is updated. It's like getting free candy. Digital candy.

thanks guys, STRIKER thats a good idea about the poly paint. This was an experiment for me as I have never considered doing it before so I dont think it would be hard for me to grab some wip screen shots and cover some of the ideas that I applied with my poly paint technique. Maybe more experienced poly painters could elaborate and point out were improvements could be made to the process!

These pics make me chuckle a little as he has ended up looking like a miniature and I do intend to 3d print the model anyway.
So these are real time screen grabs from max using some post from Xoliul's shaders and a levels and colour balance in photoshop (but esentially the same crap that would be done in a game engine).
The only cheat is a fake sand gradient i quickly added because my sand sucked... everything is realtime.
This guy was an interesting experiment. A lot of the texturing was achieved from combinations of baked textures and photoshop combinations of layers. I used xnormal and max's render surface map a lot and although I never went in and detailed as much as I typically would I kind of like the over all feel.
I might do a little more to fix a few more issues but I am pretty exhausted with this guy and need to start a fresh.
Thanks for the encouragement.
