working on my computer using things like photoshop, 3ds max and so on that require long periods of use have caused me to slowly lose my vision. Any suggestions on how to get around this, or working habits that help stop this kind of thing from happening?

are you using a flat panel or an old CRT? CRTs, ive heard, cause your vision to focus a foot or so beyond the screen and strain the eyes...flat LCDs are not supposed to have that oddity.

How do you know your losing your vision, did you have a physician tell you this or are you assuming this is the case? If it's the later then I would schedule an appointment with an eye doctor, and if you can take a physical as well. There are a number of reasons one may start to loose there vision besides staring at a computer screen.

last year i had perfect vision at the end of summer, and then in the winter time i had a huge plummet in quality of my vision. And slowly my vision has been declining. I just assumed that it has to be computers since i was doing a lot of work on the computer that summer and have continued to do so since. I guess i havent considered anything other than that because im not old enough for it to be age. The eye doctors havent told me one way or another what it could be, i just got my prescription and that was it. ill see what a physician might say though.

I guess i though others might have this same problem but it seems like that might not be the case.

Yeah the reason I asked about the physician was from experience, a buddy of mine who's a web designer started having problems with his eye sight seemingly over night. He thought it was from staring at the computer to much and after a while went to a few specialists. It was later diagnosed that he had developed premature cataracts:ack:, he was completely taken a back since cataracts is a condition that usually happens in older people. Lucky for him he had it treated successfully with surgery since the doctors caught it before things became worse. When I asked him about it he mentioned that he let it linger for a few months thinking it was just from working too much on the computer!:s Anyway I hope I didn't freak you out too much and hopefully everything works out for you.:)

Aaronindhouse - like marcus said your best bet is to go see an eye doctor. thought my problem was pc's too but ended up being far sighted, also got glasses wich have been treaded to reduce glare helps alot since looking at monitors started to hurt my eyes *.*"! old crt's.. but thats just me, so yea go see a specialist to be on the safe side.

I had such problems before, few advices here%

Build a good light enviroment around your PC, this might help a bit. Place your lights in a way there wont be too bright spots in your field of view. Load a less contrast color theme for Windows - something more dark, close to 50% grey.

Avoid continous work with stuff that gives bright contrast color spots on your monitor - painting an orange on dark background as example.
