Hi fellas, my brother(a nonartist, nongamer) is looking for a cheap, good, laptop. He's mostly looking for something with a nice typing keyboard and ...thats about it. Price range on the cheaper side...anyone know of a good model that he could pick up at the major chains or online?

I used to hate compaqs, but awhile back I had a slightly widescreen compaq laptop in my possession that cost about 300 bucks, and it would have been fantastic (speedy for word processing, browsing, and playing music). I'm not sure how the new, cheap, compaqs are these days. Other than that...It's been quite a while since I've even LOOKED at the 'price conscious' rigs

Well my family has always gotten Fujitsu brand laptops, they aren't the cheapest but they last quite a bit longer than other laptops. My brother has had his for 5 years and it still works quite nicely.

here is a link to one of the cheapest ones I could find.

cheap laptop.

Send him over to a bestbuy and look for a gateway/compaq, he can get a nice one for like 500/700 buckaroos. If he gets the warranty, after 2 years, tell him to smash it, then take it back and bestbuy will replace it with a new one, or match the price with a different type of laptop. Best part is in 2 years the model he will have will no longer exist and for the same price he paid, he can get a new one that is twice the everything.

thanks guys--we finally ended up going with a cheap compaq--it was priced pretty cheap and seemed like it would get the job done!
