im just gonna put my two cents in. make stuff up. tutorials for character designs dont really exist. what i would do is just start drawing. drawing a human get an anatomy book for proportion references.

let your mind be creative. dont rely totally on tutorials. the tutorials i would find usefull for what i think your talking about are tutorials like how to make hair or how to make something look slimy. u were telling me that u just got your tablet so ur drawing has just been enhanced with a little sugar on top but if ur teaching yourself how to draw i would consider paper first. to snaz it up bring it into photoshop via a camera or scanner and color it. practice with colors and things along that line.

hope that helps

hmmm, usually, I would also say that you should make stuff up, but not unless you have some basic knowledge about drawing to begin with. There is this step I was taught in school, that forever more, changed how I looked at things.

The teacher said, use your thumb to determine the angle and position between points. Basically, she made us raise our thumb and use it to determine the exact angles of whatever we looked at. If we looked at a person, we would raise our thumbs to help us understand the angle between the top of her head and her far right shoulder. She forced us to do this until we saw angles in everything. For 3d, this really helps your proportions because you will imidiately see what is off or not.

However, don't take this advice lightly. The human brain always thinks it knows better. Don't believe it! At first, you seriously need to raise your thumb, record its time (90 degrees is 3 oclock etc), and take that knowledge and put it on your paper. Once you develop seeing things in angles, it crazy how fast you will begin to improve.

I don't know of any 2d totorials personally, but I am sure a google search would reveal quite a few:)

No tutorial but general hints. First is get a sketchbook and sketch whenever you have time (taking the bus, lunch time, etc) and sketch whatever you see or feel like drawing. Life sketching is the best practice you can have as it trains a very important skill, which is observation. This practice is generally a must as long as you remain an artist.

Secondly, Bobby Chiu did uploaded some podcast of himself sketching some hints and tips on drawings and life. Basically what he suggest is focus on one thing when you sketch. When you study form, just do that, without concern to colors, composition, design. Just get the form right. Then when doing colors, just get the colors nice, without much regards to the rest. Currently I am still studying form :D

Hope this helps.
