Hey, for a first attempt, this is rather good man. His form is spot on. However, there are a few small details that could use a little work. His hands. They are so cute and tiny now, perhaps if you made them a little stronger looking (wider fingers, strong palms etc), they might look more manly. It's too bad you can't crank up the res further, his face could use some additional cool details. This is why I usually like to keep the face mesh seperate from the body. My heads generally pop well into a million polies and more.
if this was your first test, can't wait to see your second:)

its a good first, watch the feet - they need to be well excuted or the character will feel like he has no balance. (if you have problems making the shape right in mudbox export a low res version to max/maya adjust it there and reimport it as a layer ;)
(same technique could help you fix the hands)
Try hiding chunks of the mesh - you dont need to see it all to work on it. Also select a chunk of mesh and subdivide it. Mudbox has local subdivision so that you can work on a small chunk at a higher level of detail! Simply drop down again for it to return to the unified detail level.
