Hey guys

Just would share for those who are interested a Web 3D engine from Dassault System.
Some of you already know it the Virtools Web player engine, but it could be very useful if you would present your characters on your online portfolio.

Character name: Revan

I developped this Demo with Virtools dev 3.5 (http://www.virtools.com/) now the bug from the update to the dev 4 are fixed so I can show it now:)
->To play the Demo Download the Virtools player (http://www.virtools.com/downloads/player/install.asp).

And play the Demo here (http://twenty-team.info/blog/virtools/revan.html)or by clicking on the image above
Enjoy :)

It looks cool, although I wouldn’t depend my portfolio on such a plugin.

Basically anything that requires possible employee's to download a plugin to see your models is something you should avoid at all cost.

Yes you're all right, even if it's easy to install like the Flash plugin,
But you can make a *.exe file this need nothing to work ;)

it's a web 3d api based on java. So you just need a java runtime, most people have it. But rendering is pretty poor, it could only be useful for current gen stuff (not even specular), I don't know what they plan for the future tough.
I'd like to know more about what virtools can do :)

Hey bricevdm, yeah i already know it but with java i don't know if it uses DirectX libraries for the Shaders. In addition it is not free too.

There is Quest3d (http://www.quest3d.com)(http://www.quest3d.com/) that I really appreciate.

you can use 3DzzD (http://dzzd.net) to display 3d modele online with for the best quality/compatibilty ratio, you can check a live demo here (http://demo.dzzd.net/View3D/IPHONE.html), it is a Java 1.1 3D compatible engine (for best compatibilty) that can take advantage of hardware acceleration on user request at runtime (requiere that user have Java 1.4+, if none it will continue using software transparently).

Using SkyFire (http://www.skyfire.com/) you can also run those demo (without any modification) on any mobile device compatible with SkyFire (http://www.skyfire.com/).
