hey, this is looking pretty good. Does the rocket launcher section double for a jet pack? If not, how does he stay afloat?

Aye, looking good made. Are you going to ding him up in a normal map? add some dents and stuf fon the edges when the time comes.

Like Fred mentioned, if the rockets are just weapons...maybe you could have some kind of device on the underside of him that allows him to hover? Might look cool if you had a big light for his jet pack coming from undereith of him.

3 weeks ago i started modeling in 3d for the first time ^^
im learning pretty quick...but i got no idea how to texture, add normal or bump maps yet ^^° got to search for some tutorials i guess..

dents, scratches,RUST, dirt!! all that pretty stuff! i hope ill be able to add those effects later on =)

ill add 3 thrusters hidden under the 3 "shells" you can see in the concept art. would be better if i had painted the aferburner flames too...i guess =)

maybe an additional thruster at his back! =D

Do you already know how will you go down to the 5k mesh from the high poly you are doing now?

probably just use his high poly cage as a base and go from there.

well i didnt think about converting it into a lowpoly-5k-mesh yet ^^°

the shape of the rocket packs didnt look really cool in 3d..so i started to change the design

This is great for a first attempt in 3d. I guess it's like they say, if someone can draw good, he can easily pick up 3d. You prove this:)

Nice work so far. I know of a good tutorial for normal mapping in 3dsmax, but nothing for maya. Hope you will find something online for this. Good Luck.

very nice work for so late in the game.
will those thrusters be on a swivel? right now, they're spread out, but it looks only as though it might just be able to balance on them, but no real propulsion. and any impact in the back is going to knock it frontward. maybe make the center one in back bigger? & maybe if you're able, a small one in between these other three facing the view you have in this last image, just so it can more easily maintain its balance.

of course there will be a swivel =)
with those 3 he will be able to maneuver and float like a helicopter
hes got 2 additonal thruster on his back for a good afterburner push :D
