Here are the inital sketches...finishing up the rest for the 28th. Any thoughts?

well let me first say that I really like your stuff, the sketches look good!. I am leaning more toward the insect looking creature because for me he looks to be the more dangerous. He has a more interesting shape and a lot of details to play with. The minotaur and cyborg play as well and I do like the giant worm creature, but I think you have more room to play around with using the insect creature. Something about giant insects that just gets under alot of peoples skin, could be a good aspect to exploit. Not only do they look and more likely smell repulsive, but they almost always come in massive numbers ya know, who wants a piece of that? really...acid bug juice everywhere, you cant escape running because they can fly faster, you cant escape in the air cause....well....they can fly faster, lol. All you need is a scale guy in there to give us an idea of how big it is, get a nice low angle shot with the bug in a nice dynamic pose, maybe even attacking something. Im seeing poison needles that can shoot out of the legs, maybe even a stinger somewhere that can paralyze the victim so they cant move while their insides are sucked out. But uh, I'll stop telling you what to draw you obviously know how to move things along, lol. Looking forward to where you go with this one. Oh btw, the cool looking creature to the right of the bug thing is my second vote.

Your style really looks similar to the concept art in episode I, the Phantom Menace:eek: I have to agree with Centrifuge, the flying bug really looks good. It's my favorite one too. However, the only problem I foresee is that it might look strange if he is alone. I believe for the primary color illustration, you would not be able to show multiple creatures, so I am not sure how you would portray him by himself.

If I had to pick a second one, i would say go with the worm. He looks great too:)

Thanks for the feedback...here is an inital B/W sketch of the insect...with possible modifications. Any feedback is welcome thanks.

Very nice start here. The tail was a nice addition, however he seems a little unbalanced now. It doesn't look like his wings can support his mass. Perhaps if you made the wings bigger, or the tail thinner, things would balance out more.

Looking forward to seeing more:)

yeah I agree, the huge tail causes some balance issues as well as functionality issues. the tail seems to belong to a big lizard creature or something with more body mass. I would go with a much thinner stinger/tail, barely thicker than the legs, but much longer. Not only would that seem to fit the bug theme, but it would be more functional. It would seem more possible that the tail/stinger could retract or extend, or that the bug has speedy control of it as use for a weapon. Keep going, lets see some scale! gl.

I decided to go with the cyborg...after looking at the transformer trailer how could I refuse...damn. Any thoughts? I'll have the model sheet up shortly.

Any thoughts? aside from this being fantastic, nothing else comes to mind. Oh wait, there is one small thing. His raised right hand. Everything else on the bot looks rather angular and sharp, so what if instead of rounded finger tips, you gave him some sharp claws. It might balance more with his body. Besides this, top notch work.

Really inspiring work here. Curious, what's with the plate that connects his lower arm to his upper arm? If it was like a hydraulic cylinder tube or something, I would understand, but right now is looks like a flat plate has been wedged in there to disable his arm. I also agree with Imperial, perhaps claws would be cool.

I am really just being picky. It looks really good man:thumb:

Thanks. I have to look at that hand again. As for the arm piece...hard to say...It might need some rework...the perspective is really steep there as well. Perhaps the modelsheet will clarify. Thanks for the feedback.

Really nice and accurate modeling sheet. You made the life of a modeler very easy.

Nice job on everything man. Your color image was really inspiring:)

Thanks. This was a fun contest...really looking forward to doing more...a really incredibly talent group here, which always makes it fun.

As for the modelsheet, yeah well, I was starting to regret the robotic choice about 10:00 CST last night...but I got it done. Alot of fun though. Anxious to see the final pieces and results.

Giant robot vs. giant reptile, classic! The sheer scale of this battle is just awesome. I would really like to see that shoulder laser in action though :inocent:

The only thing I've crits on is the lack of knee bend in the ortho views.

When you model the legs with a slight bend in it, the task for the rigger would be abit easier. It has to do with the placement of the bones and the way IK (inverse kinematics ) works.

Didnt realize that...good to know, I'll add it in next time. As for the shoulder laser, yeah 2 things got me...time running out and the concern of making it too busy and more about the battle than the robot...I thought about it though...oh, I thought about it. Thanks.
