View Full Version : Dominance War Top 50 book

I was thinking, wouldn't it be awesome to buy a Dom War book? I figure something like Expose, or game art book (WoW's Art Book) with the top 50 artists from each Dom War? It'd be a yearly book released after each Dom War with the top 50 artists for that competition. I imagine the previous 2 Dom War winners would get put into the first book.

There could even be sections for each site that enters (ie: 2 page spread of each sites' posters). The top 10 winners could get a couple pages. The possibilities are endless really.

I'd totally buy it for $50, hell even $75:) The proceeds would go to help support the Dominance War since let's face it, Dom War is only going to get bigger and bigger. Submissions for next year could require making a "bookshot" that had proper resolution for print.

Man I'm pumped thinking about all the possibilities!!

A resounding YES PLZ from me, and there aren't many art books I'd buy. My inspiration folder is bursting from all the 2D goodness this year.

Maybe through lulu.com if going through a traditional printer is too much?

Then again, maybe we should let fred finish the posters before we dump more on him. Still, for $50 I'll take one.

I was thinking this exact same thing last night. There's so few art books out there that, 1 I can afford, I'd love the takayuki takeya art book, but since it's out of print, it's like $400. And 2, have the content I really want. This proposed book would meet those two points.

Please, please, please, make this book!!! And keep the price reasonable, the $50-$75 suggested would be great for a softcover, and hardcover editions.

This is a perfect idea, and must be followed through! Please? ;)

Awesome, so who's gonna make it?

I sent a PM to Fred about it and then spoke with Joe about it. He said he was going to talk with Fred about it as well. Ballistic was one of the possible ideas.
I'm cool with pitching in if they need help as I'd love to see this come to fruition.

Ok ok ok, I'll look into it:flag: I was thinking of what type of format I'd like for this, and it's either like Intron Depot (http://thegeekreview.com/wp-content/uploads/2008/04/intron3.jpg) (tall book, great glossy soft cover, great quality inside pages), or a book format that is similar to star wars (http://cargobay.starwars.com/books/nonfiction/bts/b_nf_bts_974.jpg) (hard cover, tall book, moderate price, nice feel). Will contact a publisher next week and 'if' they write back, I'll see what is involved:)

My old art director had the Star Wars book. It's a really solid book the hardcover was incredibly sturdy and the inside pages were also high quality. I've never seen the intron books (the link you posted doesn't seem to work. I just did a google search on Intron Depot). I really think a nice tall book is a great way to go. I'd have no problem re-rendering a beauty shot for print resolution/dimensions.
Thanks again Fred!

Here's hoping they write you back then, Fred. This would be one of the all time best art books ever.
I've got 2 of the intron depot books, and they are very good quality.

yup sounds like a really good idea, it would of course include all the information about the artist and making of each piece so we could actually use it as a great learning resource? Actually I think it would be serious competition for ballistics character modelling series! they never seem to have alot of info about how things were actually done in those books :/

Do we have any news on this yet? Still in love with the idea, and it would be nice to know if there's any progress. ;)

I am working on it... one step at a time. There is something that must be done before a book is made. Still working on it.

If you do move foward and make something like this please include the down and dirty details. If there's one thing that irks me when I pay for these types of books is that they're filled well...With all the beauty shots. That's it.

I don't buy these to look at those. I want the wireframe, numbers in poly, faces, maps, those are much more important to me then just the beauty renders. Save those for the end.

Great idea though. I'm definitely interested
