Yeah it looks like you went with the middle age Al Pacino rather than the Al Pacino we see today. It's looking solid so far and you've captured his likeness really well, can you post the references your using? Nice work DejaVooDoo!:)

I hadn't actually viewed him in orthographic views like this until now. I def. see many areas for improvement. Damn perspective view has really thrown off my shapes ...

Some of the Pacino fans here in the studio are loving this and didn't even have to see the reference photo's to catch the likeness, terrific work man keep it up!:thumb:

Awesome, Marcus, thanks a lot!! I'm glad SOMEONE likes it :) I'm pretty critical of my stuff ... so far to go ... so little time ...
It's so hard to find decent ref. Especially since he's had some plastic surgery over the years. I've actually gotten some help from youtube vids, and watching how the shadows come across his face to define some shapes.

Woah hang on there before you go all modeling in orthos. NO PHOTO REFERENCE WILL BE ORTHOGRAPHIC! Especially of a human. One CAN correct for lens distortion via a piece of equipment (that I forget at the moment) that basically pre distorts the incoming light, but that is almost exclusively used for architectural photography., but anyway all photos will have some manner of perspective. If you want to match it set your in viewport camera to a preset for an aperture of 35 mm or 6'X4.5' for still shots and 35mm for movie reference.

When he looks good in perspective, he'll look good in perspective. You won't be rendering an orthographic projection so stay off of them, especially once you've gotten your model this far.
He will not look right in perspective if he's modeled in orthographic mode over photos.

That said, he looks like he has a bit of Christopher Walken in him right now, as well as Pachino. It has a lot to do with how his jaw transitions into his chin. You've really got a good thing going though. Its a very good likeness as it is, and it will be great to see you push it further.

Normal mapped version ... I feel like I regressed a little in the likeness, hopefully I can make up for it with the texture.

Really nice likeness. Yes, it looks like some of the likeness got diminished in the translation. If there was a way to intensify your normal map, this could help. I remember reading about this somewhere, but I forgot where.

Looking forward to more!

Well done, Deja...it's looking great - a portrait must be a great challenge! Any progress on the texture?
