I was going to post about it if someone else hadn't, I love the art style, and how polished it looks already. The gameplay seems good too and definitely looks like an evolution in the ol hack and slash genre.

Yeah I was up watching the live stream from Paris, They have some good developers panels going on right now. And the cinematic looks great!

YES!!!!! I was hoping and praying that this would be announced! After watching the vids, I've got chills. CHILLS!! The art video was amazing, those are the enemies I've been dying to fight, and the characters I've been wanting to play as. I was hoping for a full 3d, 3rd person version, not the same diablo cam angle, but after watching the demo video, they somehow made that camera angle look like it was the only choice. Man, blizzard knows their shit! I'm so excited right now, thanks for the links. I got inspiration for my final demo reel characters :D

I'm REALLY glad they stuck to the 'Diablo-Style', and didn't WoWify it like they did to Starcraft.
Really looking forward to playing it.
I think I'm in the minority here, but is anyone else a bit concerned that both D3, and SC2 look more like graphical enhancements rather than brand new games?

great cinematic and artwork !. hope it's still addicting like D2.
and the most important thing is, we will play it in the near future..2 years from now maybe? :D

I was looking forward to Blizzard changing up the camera a bit to something along the lines of Too Human. Aside from that it does look good and I'm sure it'll be a killer game given Blizzards pedigree.
Joxx. I thought the same, but then again... Topdown RPGs tend to look much alike, no matter how much would have been changed or how different they are. Not talking with only diablo in mind :) For SC2 I kinda had hoped for somewhat different or 'special' rts system, but.. Can't get it all, can we? For D3, I'm all for semi-isometrics :)
But none the less. Can't wait!

I don't think the game is normal mapped, at least not the characters.
@Revliss
No it isnt.
the presentation is great but in the detail it looks not so very very good ; )
its a blizzard game, no blizzard game looks great on his release. ^^

It looks too colorful and cheery. I was expecting something darker and grimmer looking (from the screens).

When will Diablo III be released?
It's too early to estimate Diablo III's release date. As with all Blizzard Entertainment games, our goal is to create a game that is as fun, balanced, and polished as possible. We intend to take as much time developing Diablo III as is necessary to ensure the game meets our own high expectations and those of our players.
Translation: "We're dirty little teases doing our dirty little tease thing. Made ya' look."
I swear. Between Spore this year and Diablo III & Deus Ex 3 next year, I'll never get any work done.

Its only three games I doubt they can impair your work flow too much... well until Starcraft 2 comes out, thats 10 more years of game play :) ....

Yeah, but when you replay the same game over and over and over....
I'll get bored during lunch and "accidentally" dupe myself into replaying old faves, thereby sucking days out productivity out of me. :) Some games have that effect on me.
I can see it happening to me with Diablo3 & Spore too.
Now, if only somebody would make a game that nobody would ever play..... or ever have a chance of playing.... ever.
*cough* Duke Nukem Forever *cough*
Ooh. I should get that cough taken care of. :D
Arkadius

Well you have not to worry Diablo 3 wont be released for another 3 years... And if your really afraid that spore will suck your time or any other game for that matter, you could just ship the game after the first time you beat the it to your fellow Game artisans for safe keeping ;)
Duke Nukem? Has that thing been in production "forever"?

I really like this line. I should use it for Dominance War and Unearthly Challenge..... I intend to take as much time preparing Dominance War IV and Unearthly Challenge as is necessary to ensure the competition meets my high expectations and those of our artists.
:2thumbs:
Otherwise, the game looks really good! Can't wait to play it!

I can not wait for Deus Ex 3!! So much so I reinstalled Deus Ex 1!!
That game STILL holds up. It's got it's quirks and the graphics are dated, but the core gameplay is what keeps me craving more. Anyone know the ship date? Or if there is anymore info they've released for it!?!

Will the next main comp be a Diablo III inspired comp perhaps!?

Beyond the pre-rendered teaser? I don't think so. The guess is that it'll be out in late Q2 2009 or very early Q3 2009. We're still probably 12 months off. I guess that they could theoretically announce or show something in a couple of weeks at E3, but I think that we might have heard rumors of it already.
My only concern is that Warren Spector is not on this project. That could put a damper on things. Hopefully, at least, the new design team will rework the biomod system so that it's a bit more like DE1 instead of DE2. Making biomod & gadget system overly friendly for console systems was the only big problem in Invisible War. We'll see.

I am actually reallllyy tempted to make a blizzard Fanbased competition, but I am not sure if blizzard would like this.

lol, wasn't dom war III a blizzard fanbased comp? :) when the sponsors were announced i kinda guessed the theme on the spot :)
FredH
06-30-2008, 04:01 PM
Nope, it was not a blizzard theme. Artists needed a change, so I thought something fantasy themed this time around would be cool.

Why would Blizzard not want this? I mean they advertise all over this site, free advertising!:) I realize they have their own comp, but I doubt that would take away any of their thunder.

Probably a simple issue of IP. Companies are very protective that way and will sometime discourage fan works, comps, lit, etc.. I don't see why it would be much of a problem here, provided that people stay away from Blizzard created stuff. I think that, as long as you're in the "inspired by" or "Blizzard-esque" territory, you might be okay.

If you do decided to go with a 'Diablo' style contest, I opt for the 2 yet-to-be seen Lesser Evils.
Azmodan (Lord of Sin), and Belial (Lord of Lies).
As a base of reference, you could use the two Lesser Evils that were seen in Diablo 2:
Andariel:
http://diablo2.judgehype.com/screenshots/actes/quetes/acte1/Andariel.jpg
and Duriel (aka Hydralisk):
http://diablo3.ingame.de/spiel/quests/pics/duriel2.jpg
Anyways, I'm looking forward to this game. I just don't want to play this or SC2 anywhere near the amount I played D2 and SC.
(both competetively).

I am a self confessed diablo2-aholic.
I go to meetings once a month with 3 friends and we make
new hardcore characters or do hell-baal runs to satisfy
our sadistic itch.
firstly i will say i creamed my pants watching the diablo2 gameplay video.
But i have some serious concerns in terms of gameplay.
It almost looks as if they have arcade-ified the game for "easier" gameplay.
Instant heals dropping off monsters? questionable improvement where in my opinion none was needed.
Anyone remember dungeon siege 1 and 2?
In my opinion they completely ruined the series in the second game, and i
hope they dont do this to diablo. making gameplay too smooth and linear and soley focusing on the art side of development is a sad and unfortunate trend
of alot of current and next-gen games and i am going to rely on Blizzards
unlimited funding and near-unblemished reputation to come up with what i [ and i would say a large core of diablo2 fans ] are expecting out of this sequel.
i dont want a different camera angle, and i dont care about normal maps.
I want brand new content in a world truly diablo-esque, an improved skill system and balanced PVP.
If anyone remembers the sorts of large scale fights you get into in diablo2, then keep in mind there is a reason why these graphics have been toned down.
thats pretty much my 2 cents on this game. i will wait, but
not with baited breath, people too often build this stuff up only
to be let down
