I think your to stuck with the long coat and cowboy style look. I dont think it really works any way, plus it has been done a zillion times. I think you need to pay more attention to the idea building process. do diffrent designs and pick one from those.

i totally agree with evil. think more about the functionality of the several tools and fashion gifts you draw for him. why does he have to wear a coat? if hes a paramedic, what is the claw for? i hope hes not working as surgeon! :P
how old is that guy? is it a guy? what experiences did he make so far? what does he want? i guess he wont get paid for helping people so whats the deal?

you see...endless list, just pick out anything that may help you to know WHY you are drawing something.
