Public Voting for the 14th Minicomp, Mini Judges is up and ready. Voting is open from now until Thursday, mid-night-ish!
Once again, this contest has a 'soft deadline', which means entries will continue to be submitted between now and Thursday, with the advantage of those artists taking more time to polish their work, but at the disadvantage of possibly receiving less votes.
Regardless, voting itself is still as easy as it's always been. Just log in with 'remember me' checked, follow the link, and place your votes today!
Here's the link!

Good work, everyone, this was a VERY popular comp, and a great one to make my final 3d mini. ThatDon will be filling in for the 3d minicomps from here on out.
Ha, some great entries. Made voting very difficult, but I managed to get three in the end. Still there's others that deserve mentioning. :D

yeah ditto, how did that don get that ds res look? anyone know?
i saw some psp spec charecters a while back probably with the same thing done.

Looks to me like he just scaled the image down and put a grey stroke around the edges. I notice Don does this often with his presentations.
Ofcourse I could be wrong.

Agreed. This was the toughest mini to vote on.
I think someone should donate their model to the SDK master list!

He also split his 512 map into two 256 maps which gives you half the actual pixel resolution, so it would look more pixelated.
512x512 = 262,144 pixels
256*256*2 = 131,072 pixels
Voting was hard, one I wanted to vote for sure on wasn't there and another one I had high hopes for wasn't there either.
Cheers,

Holy shasta, Rasta!
The entries look incredible!
I had a hard time voting between A) Resemblance to an original Judge, B) Thread participation (sorry, you didn't get my vote if you didn't post... even if yours looked amazing!) C) and Originality

Yea... I think its best to vote based on the competition brief since thats the challenge and whole point of the contest.

It was a lot of fun to do, and the standard is pretty high. Well, a theme like this you're bound to get a lot of good work! FF designs are pretty inspiring (usually lol)

some really good stuff like everyones said its hard to pick out three! feel bit embarrassed cos mine looks a bit shoddy in comparison but was fun and any constructive criticism on my entry is more than welcome! how often do these challenges take place?

1) I would say to add an AO bake to your texture for some more lighting goodness.
2) People put too much ripple in their capes and make them look like thin curtains. Check out some videos of the judges in game on youtube, very little deformation (thick cloth), very few highlights.
3) I want to go add this bit of polish to mine as well but I may just move on... If you have those designs and armor edges setup on their own layers I would add a bevel layer effect to them. Since things are at different angles you will need to turn "use global light" off and do them individually based on angle.

well I got a minute this morning to work on my entry some more and realized that I had several of my detail textures turned off :<
Is there a way for me to change my portfolio entry before the midnight deadline?

Well i liked the faceted look but my friend is complaining about it... thoughts on the smoothing angle? should I make it smooth?
Heres the smooth and shiny, tell me which you like better?
