Thanks guys, Im really excited about this comp. I'll have thumbnails up pretty soon.

So heres my initial thumbnails.
Research
During my research of M. Bison I found out a few things that I never knew about Bison before. Heres some facts:
- He has an evil energy called Psycho Power
-He has scientist building him a new body to transfer his essence into because his old one cannot contain the power.
-Psycho Drive : used to restore his power
-He was trying to create a satelite weapon to enhance his Psycho Power.
-He has an even more powerful version of himself called Shin M. Bison
Thoughts and Ideas
I tried a little asymmetry on some of the designs, some of the things I focused on were making him look more like a general, I wanted to keep his regal stature, played with different shapes.Mostly I didnt want to go too much in detail just get down some rough ideas.
Some other things i was considering were
- making his metal armaments look more functional rather that just metal plates. Maybe some of this metal parts have a purpose of containing his essence in to his body, or to help him levitate or even focus his Psycho power as a projectile weapon.
- Subtlely Incorporate the Psycho drive to his body.
- Maybe some corruption of his body from the evil energy pulsing inside him.

5 is my fave, minus the arm band thingy. Carries a nice military feel to it, somewhat like the Imperial Guard generals from Winter Assault, and i guess from the table top game aswell :D
Love the coat on the 2nd, though I think being able to fully see the boots is a big plus. Damn.. im torn now :flag:
A fine start, as expected.

kick ass thumbs mate!
also a little tidbit for ya, in Japan he is called Vega, but got changed to M.Bison here in America because it was thought that the name "Vega" sounded to sissy for a boss.

So your saying thats why Vega is a sissy in the game.

what?
I could swear its because M. Bison was the name for the black boxer boss, and capcom USA was worried M. Tyson's lawyers, and or the man himself, might come over to their offices and serve them a "cease and desist" so they called the big guy M. Bison, the boxer Balrog, and the Spaniard Vega. Just a name rotation to avoid a potential lawsuit.
(and according to a link from wikipedia to a page of Japanese text on capcom's site, Vega sounded like a weaklings name too... so whichever)
Vega's a "sissy" because hes an archetypal narcissistic villain of Japanese origin, and that archetype is almost always effeminate.

Given from what I’ve seen of your past works I expected nothing less, even at this stage. I really like them all for different reasons but to me 2 and 5 are the most fitting. I can’t wait to see more! Psycho Power!:thumb:

So heres my first rough concept. I know theres been several versions of M. Bison. Old, young etc. I always liked the big powerful version. Seems like the Psycho Power is pulsing inside his body. He needs a strong powerful shell to contain it. It leads to a more interesting silowette also.
I added a sort of embossed design on his right shoulder to add a little more asymmetry. It also adds to his character. Being a narcisistic dictator he would want statues and elaborate design that show off his granduer. Much like the dictators in history.
I always thought his belt was too weak, I made it bigger like a wresters belt. Big and powerful like him.

this is a very cool rough sketch. nice pose, and the "nazi evil" feeling this gives off to me plays well. I gota say however, your thumbs were looking much more detailed and extravagant<<[spelling?]. I like the thumbs because they take the original design a step further. though this last sketch is nice and the direction is good, I think it still mirrors the original too closely, especially his face. but maybe I am misunderstanding the goal in the comp. can't wait to see where you go from here, good stuff!
btw the bigger skull belt is a nice touch.

Kipiripi - Ill see what i can do about the collar
Centrifuge - Theres alot more details im putting into the character that will seperate it from the original. Right now its just roughly blocked out.
Thanks for the comments guys.

MATE! Love the way you're going with this! putting the rest of us to shame!
I've always felt that I wanted to see more of the psyco element to bison, the face has zombie connotations which I'm assuming flows into the psyco powers?
Good job sir! Inspiring!

he he good to see you up here man. a little horn-locking with a former co-worker can be healthy from time to time. anyway your thumbs look great in terms of draftsman ship. i think, however, that especially with the story you discovered, there is a chance to pull him further away from what we know as "bison". the thumbs feel like a redesign in the armor and not a deeper exploration of what he could be. i, personally, would like to see that psycho power explored to levels like, what if his whole body is engulfed by it and his upper torso floats in some red energy and he is like a cross between carnage and the bison we remember. those are my thoughts and i hope this helps.

smithyjake - Ya its a perspective thing, but it still looks wierd to me. My latest version has more stable leg positions.
Mr. Paick - Thanks for the encouragement
Rv_el - Ya i wanted to play around with the cloth a bit. Not normal cloth, more artistic renderings. Some reasoning behind it could be that the eminating energies in Bison are making it go crazy.
Mellowsmoothe - Ya my first attempts were very tamed. I was very cautious at not straying to far from what makes M. Bison what he is. But Im way ahead of you on you on that. Here are Some of the ideas Im trying out...
He wears a special suit to aid his body contain the psycho power.
Show signs of his bodys pounding of the psycho energy coursing inside him.
Maybe he doesnt have his clean general look anymore, hes coping with this ability for years and his scientist can do little to aid him. He has gotten scruffy and a little worn. His sleaves get torn from the use of the spycho power. His veins are pulsing out. He looks on the verge of madness.
Maybe his fragile human shell is frayed and beams of spycho energy pulse inside him. The only thing holding him together is the suit the scientist made for him.
I like the idea the cross between carnage and Bison idea. Ill probably try that on one of my sketches. I appreciate all the comments. Thanks.

Well heres my first moderate pass at M. Bison.
I was thinking he had just come back from the verge of insanity trying to contain his Psycho powers. I see this version of Bison as kind of regaining himself a bit so he still has that general feel but still a little grungy from his ordeal. He has evidence of the toll the Psycho Power has taken on the left side of his body and head. Shadowlaw has run a muck with out their leader and he dropped the Ironfist to prove he is still fit to lead them.
Im still trying to explore a little more extreme versions, but I just got carried away rendering this one.

Hey, this concept is looking cool but his legs are looking extremely short and I'm not sure if that's what you're going for. It looks like you're going for the distorted perspective... looking down at him, but it's not quite reading yet. If you select the legs and stretch them out vertically you'll see what i mean.
If you are going for shorter legs, then just ignore me :). But I was assuming from your thumbnails that you weren't.

his "hand" feels off, if you were going to stay true to the street fighter style then it should be just as overly oversized as their feet are. either way it needs to be beefed up.
Keep it up, you are doing awesome.

thatdon has a good point. the hand looks like it got scaled down in photoshop. don said enough so im just saying i agree :) keep up the work as it was loading slowly all i was saying was wow and trying to catch the details.

That face is classic, I just finished watching a documentary on the Nazis and it definitely has that eerie cold feel to it. The harsh contrast in the presentation is really freaking me out:paper: but in a good way keep on rocking dude!
