yoyomon has entered the competition!

Made this guy last year. He's one of my very first lowpoly models. I've been wanting to remake him to better fit the online folio for a while now.

Hehe, this design lends it’s self to some very interesting possibilities; I can’t wait to see where you take it.;)

Been working on the new concept yesterday. After doing a little research, beetles aren't the greatest candidate for centaurising b/c they almost drag themselves more than they do walk, it's that whole exoskeleton vs bone structure I suppose. But I decided the use a little of both worlds to create the revision.

I'm gonna see if I can't get this guy colored by tonight or tomorrow. The stone axe he's holding is questionable if it's going to be modeled. Hope you like it :) .

hey, wicked revision man. The merger between the bones and exoskeleton really worked out to your advantage.. however, I wonder if there is perhaps one additional thing you can merge... humanity's touch. Sure, his naked body looks great, but if you put on some loose bits of clothing.. even rags, it would suggest he is an intelligent species. It would be cool to see some harnesses, ropes, or even chains on him somewhere.

Besides this, it's looking great! Keep it up:thumb:

Armour???....hmmm...I'll wip something up. Finished playing with the first color test. I'll probably go back during the modeling phase and play some more with it.

great yoyomon!
the colors are a little bit boring though. How about making the underside brighter/different color?
I also dont really like the weapon. I think something bigger with more "insectoid" shapes would be looking better.

Give it that candy paint like a june bug... jk...lol

Awesome revision, albeit with a bulkier upper body, the legs appear less sturdy than the original (the knees and thighs are fine, I'm eyeing the shins and below).

Nice concept, way better than the original, but it needs more color contrast. In this regard, the original model is better.

Pretty awesome redesign you have going there yoyomon, I agree with StefanH about the colors. Given that olive green is your base color you can use orange or brown and your secondary color. Bring on the model!:)

Thanks for the comments guys. At the moment, I'm working on some detailed drawings of different parts of the beetle. A couple of different positions of how the legs attach to the torso, different carapace designs (mainly underbelly), legs, arms, weapons, and maybe some armor. I'll update tomorrow, and hopefully start on the model this weekend.
