I made this character for a cgchat comp I never completely finished, this is as far as I got. The idea behind this character is that she specializes in ambushing samurai for their cash and supplies.

At the moment I'm planning to keep it around it's original polycount (2.5k tris) with some mesh tweaks. I'm looking to have my textures pull most of the weight, which is ironic because that was the thing that held me up most in the original.

I'll post some WIP's soon...

Back online, sweet. Thanks for the comments guys, I appreciate it. Here's the latest version.

Some mesh/uvw tweaks, but like I said earlier I'm mostly focusing on textures for this one. The textures are still pretty messy right now, mainly clothing folds that need work. The alpha on the pants is purely a placeholder right now and I'll have the same torn/frayed alpha on the waist of the shirt. Not worrying about UV seams just yet either.

I'd be particularly keen to hear any crits about the overall design and colour-scheme if anyone has some. Oh yeah, there will be bows/knots painted on the back of those red ribbons around her knees. Thanks.

I understand you would like to focus on your textures rigt now, but the point of this comp is to redesign, and upgrade your character. In order to do that, you need to make a new mesh. With the new poly limit, there is so much more you could do with this model. Don't let this model go to waste.

Your comments are fair enough man and I'll consider making serious mesh revisions, but I can't find anything specifying a complete mesh rebuild in the brief:

It is kind of early here and I haven't had my coffee yet, but I can't find any details like that. Had that been the case I may not have entered this comp, as I'm not really interested in upresing the mesh.

For me this is more about doing some nice diffuse/spec/normals 2d work, as that's where the original version of this concept fell over, so I'm still liking the idea of keeping the mesh low res to accentuate this.

I see what you mean, infact, I think I may have taken the term extreme make over too far.

When it's all said and done, what matters most is if you like the end result.

If you are not into the prize or winning the comp i guess... it just fine. Coz without the new mesh, your entry stands in disadvantage to compete with the rest who remake the whole model.

I gotta say I'm with the other guys here Eagle.......This character reads as being very square and rigid....Tweaking/adding to the mesh will push this model heaps....

do the model... she could definite have a much more sexier... err... lethal silhouette. It will be worth it.
