big and huge and unfinished

here's a wip of the entry i was working on for the big and huge contest.

she's an evil statue of liberty that crushes everything in her path and "liberates" the oil from the ground using her torch/drill.

i wish i spent more time doing pencil sketches to plan out a good pose. i just jumped in and started painting in photoshop before i really knew what i was doing. i plan to color it in after i fix some stuff up, like her arms and the background.

Kickass design! I love the textural rendering too, fits the theme perfectly.

I agree it would've benefited from a more thorough exploration of poses and composition, it took a while for what's happening in the scene to register. Although, it does showcase the design nicely which is probably what mattered to you.

Add little fighter planes to the scene!

There are some great atmospheric effects in your background but it looks a little bit flat. I think the way the ground and shadow from the character is painted in the lower half of the image is making it look flat.
I think the pose actually looks pretty good. Maybe the left arm could be in a more natural position...

I love the charcoal look you have going in the image. Nice!

thanks for all the compliments and crits. i finally got around to coloring it in. it didn't really come out as good as i might have hoped, but this is probably more complex than anything else i've tried to paint, so i can't really complain.

oh man i love the whole gothic turn of the century buzz... its CLASS!!! So atmospheric. Well done! Reminds me slightly on Steamboy (the anime) only darker.
