Brilliant. I can't wait to see what you cook up!
Paperboy redesign synopsis: When it came to redesigning this
character I was pretty sure of what routes I wanted to steer
clear of ie: The cheeky, clean, likable boy. I want to inject a bit
of an edge to paperboy, make him a bit more street wise.
I hate naming actors to describe a character, its a cop out. ¦¬)
But for speedy purposes; He's kinda like John Conor
(Edward Furlong) in Terminator 2 and Jay (Emile Hirsch) from
Lords of Dogtown. Basically he's a troubled and angry young
runaway so to make ends meets he is a courier for drug dealers.
The Paperboy is just a front. He's been exposed to
life on the streets and many of the harsh realities that most
kids don't experience. Drugs and violence rule his world and
the authorities are mostly onlookers that just cross his path from
time to time. But he's a surviver! Street knowledge and some
dream of a better life motivates him... RIP the old carefree
innocent paperboy.
A paperboy of the 21st century is born and nursed by the
filth of modern society.
good start! would he still be riding a bmx-style bike or could he switch to a skateboard, rollerblades or a pogo stick (in a pinch or for a challenge)?
other idea: what if it was a paper girl? like a young Tank Girl gets a job?

Damn, nice backstory for Paperboy. He's a streetwise kid alrite. I dig it.
Just wondering, are you gonna design a new set of wheels for him?
scorn-maniac - YEah totally given him new wheels...! Pic coming soon... Cheers
Keo - Thanks, nice ideas! But I'm staying loyal to the original characters sex and the "real" world setting.
Keeganb_2000 + Frozan + mellowsmoothe - Thanks guys

Wow what an interesting choice for an extreme makeover! I like the skater punk feel to the concept sketches and honestly I’m not sure how far you could push it given the character choice. One thing he definitely need is an “Ipod” haha I can’t see him riding his bike without one!
Marcus
Ty Marcus for the comments - Yeah personally I was sticking my neck out a little on this one. I choose Paperboy because it was a massive title! Anyway by taking a little nice kid outa he's pixelated world and placing him in a violent drug infested underworld... This factor was always going to be the "Extreme" part in my design.

The lighting in your final looks great man and you found a really nice pose to make your paperboy shine. Well done man.
btw, I wanted to take a look at your website to compare this piece with your previous work... and I had some serious problems looking around:eek: Personally, I think It would be great if you put in target="_self" for every link. This would prevent all your popups windows from triggering a warning message. Also, there was no right scroll bar on your sketches page. So I only saw the top image. I couldn't move down. Strange:s

Awesome job man. :) Dig the final pose and the chopper bike really is rad. He looks like he's ready to take on the neighbourhood in the crack of morning!
Good luck!

congrats on finishing! i would have prefer the pose of the right sketch in your second pose but good work anyway. also like your way of working with the character... :) good luck!
Thanks alot guys...!!!
Dario... I agree with you on that... lost some of the dynamicness of the sketches in the final piece+ not just that... in the sketch I wanted Paperboy frozen mid action. Whereas my final render he is posing.
Fred thanks for that info on my site... i'm working on it myself and i'm having a fare amount of problems. I'm learning as i go. Never created a site before and I wouldn't consider myself very tech aware lol... if you get my drift. But these are problems which i'm going to resolve asap.
