"A special effect without a story, is a pretty boring thing." - George Lucas.. before he went nuts.

Haloid was interesting for a bit, but his stuff feels kinda stale after that. I appreciate the technical difficulty and expertise in making all this, but its really at the same level as the XiaoXiao stick figure fight flash animations from 1999-2000 in terms of long term interest.

He's a really great animator, and pretty good cinematographer, I'd just like to see a bit more depth than "crazy fight scene" in his work. :)

It doesn't need more depth, because that's not what he's aiming for. More story is great, but it doesn't need story. He's showing what he's good at and doing it because he enjoys it. It's like telling an artist they need to paint a comic strip instead because their pictures need more story.

To say this is at the same level as XiaoXiao is truly unfair.

I bet you, the moment he adds in some form of story telling, people will rise up and tell him it sucks. Story telling is not his job or forte.

No, you're very correct. The moment he added story he'd probably lose his core audience.
But it isn't an unfair comparison. Monty's stuff is far more complicated and pretty, but its not that different at its core.
This is the same reason God Hand was fun on the first play-through, but less so the second.
..
ok just watched road3. That was pretty awesome.

he got some specific audience.

I wont expect hollywood or pixar animation and storyline quality
from free long animation ^^.

I like some of his stuffs, some other perhaps little bit too serious.
eg final fantasy vs DOA supposed to be his best quality both storyline and stuff.

but to be honest haloid and ROAD series consider things i like most.
it feel more HIM. feels like its free from "correct" rules. even tho the quality are much less than dead fantasy. but the story its not too serious, which is that kind of thing most of ppl on the net are looking for. something silly.

Sounds like a wide assumption to me. People look for all sorts of things, if it stands out, people will watch it regardless of taste and judge it to their taste afterwards.
