Hey folks. I'm neither blind nor stupid and I already noticed that this is a community focussing on graphics. But as far as I can see this page's name is "GameArtisans" and I guess being a musician who wants to compose music for video games I'm also a "game artisan". Now, composing music for video games or motion pictures isn't just making music, it's making music that fits to images (and in case of video games it's even a lot more) and so I'm rather looking for communities where I can find graphics artists that might need a musician. Unfortunately I haven't been able to find a CG or animation community that offers special corners for composers willing to add their music to a project. But I thought, that since this is a community for game artisans, this is a good place to start my search for oppurtunities to contribute some music.

I'd be very grateful if you'd tell me if there's actually a chance to find artists or teams that might need my services around here or perhaps in another community. In the "jobs" section I noticed that there's also offers for programmers so I guess that there might be an offer for composers some day as well.

And seriously: It doesn't matter to me whether I have to create music for a short animation or just a slide show. I'm looking for any oppurtunity to cooperate with visual artists.

I'd be grateful for any kind of advice (as long as it's not offensive).

I think it's a good thing to mention that and I'd say it could be great if there was a subforum for everything sound-like that's related to what most folks here do. Probably gotta be somewhat empty at the beginning tho... so if you know others of your kind, let them know if it's actually happening. ;)

It says in your profile that your a student. What king of student are you? This question might help us get a feeling about the person behind the username/post. Alot of people here like myself do mainly video game art but have dabled in the audio side of things. As of right now i am taking an audio for games class. We use Fruity Loops and Audition, what are some applications you use ? Can you post any of your work?

Your question thou why there isnt a forum for audio would need to be placed inside the sugestions thread that way the mods and admins might be able to help assist you better.

No, I'm not yet a king of students. Would be nice though. ;)

Now seriously: I'm actually gonna study "media and journalism" in the university of Warsaw (starting fall 2009) so I'm not officially gonna study composition although the ability to create modern and quite professional music is a factor that increased my chances to get into this field of study (as well as my interest in photography and writing). Due to injury I left the "civil service" (in Germany that's an alternative to military service) and now I have a lot of spare time to concentrate on my true passion: composing music. And actually I'm not yet sure if I shouldn't try to get a job at one of the Polish developer teams in Warsaw once I'm there. CD Projekt who developed The Witcher are expanding and looking for any kinds of members... well, whatever.

As for now:
I have had two years of education in composing music (and am sort of capable of playing the piano) but I'm mainly learning by doing and by reading literature about this kind of stuff (concentrating on movie soundtracks since many aspects of movie and game music are basically the same although there's also some large differences). At least that way I'm sort of developing my own style (instead of becoming the next Hans Zimmer double). Currently I'm creating a collection of demo tracks of many sorts and looking for any oppurtunity to improve my portfolio and gain some experience.

You may check my MySpace profile where I just added some tracks (and I'm gonna add some more soon):

My homepage is currently in a somewhat pathetic state without any demos and with a default graphics set from NetObjects fusion, with two links to small freeware games though which I've made some music for (the main reasons are that I've never learnt to program PHP or to create good web graphics - but hey, at least I've managed to write and create my own MySpace design ;)).

http://www.players-mind.net

I have quite a large collection of very good software and quite good hardware (I'd say more than 90% of any money I've earned in my whole life has been spent on these things). My main DAW application is Cubase SX 3 (although I'm planning to upgrade to Cubase 4 soon) and I've got quite a large collection of VST plugins including Halion, Stylus RMX, Atmosphere and a lot more. Theoratically I can create almost any kind of music and actually I can expand my collection without serious problems (in fact I can afford one highend plugin per month).

I put a funny phrase on my page: "If something doesn’t fit to my regular style it’s not impossible, it’s a challenge." In fact this means that you should ask me whatever you need and I'm gonna tell you if I can do the job. So far I've always managed to satisfy the needs of anyone who asked me (for example I contributed some tournament music to a LAN Party for more than 120 people, I've created some music for a play written and performed by a friend of mine, and I've composed some music for games that are yet gonna be published - this includes orchestral music, electronica, techno/metal hybrids and some more stuff). Of course there's some composers I idolize and that's my top three: Jesper Kyd, Clint Mansell, Akira Yamaoka.

I'm also starting to get interested in sound design and have already acquired some literature about this and I'm thinking about buying proper equipment for creatingprofessional sounds on my own.

Sorry for the long post. :/

id say thats and awesome idea, i know alot of soundguys that would probably love to be a part of this community, as someone said before, it would probably be a bit empty but i def think it deserves at least one subforum. But the thing is this would open doors for collaborations that wouldve been hard to put together otherwise, and lets face it, its hard enough to gather a team of competent devs as it is.
