Just a thread for us to share how we do things, and the tools we use. Perhaps learn something new from the other Env Artist out there.
So, list what you use and what you wish for - maybe someone knows of something out there?
@ Home I use Lightwave 9 with FaoGen and FPrime 3. I find I can build HUGE lit scenes with Lightwave and use FPrime 3 to not only see the entire scene as it should, but bake out the shadowmaps really fast. Sucks I can't use LightWave and FPrime at work.
@ Work I use Maya 7 and FaoGen. I also have a modified Surface Sampler script that allows me to use the same object as the source and destination (Now WHY didn't it do that out the box?!) which is heaps faster. My only gripe with Maya is that it's dog slow with MR, not all the lighting systems are together (do it all in MR, or all in Maya Software). I have another script that swaps the tiled and non-tiled UV sets of the selected objects (for baking/export)
-----------
I wish for a way to bake my lighting/shadowmaps in faster and match what the heck it looks like in the preivew and get higher quality without taking a "long lunch". Since I don't get to use all the bells and whistles (characters get them...), all of my work is pre-lit.
