You mean _very_ first model or first completed ingame character?
Because my first models were just an assembly of 3dsmax primitives boxmapped with ultimate texture of doom http://img1.grafika.cz/grafika/images/PLATEOX2.jpg
TryForce man that's just too cool to be someones first model, pretty sure you had something older before that one was made :)

3 spheres on top of each other. Snow man
Sphere for the eyes, and a ring of 5 spheres for the mouth.
I extruded a cylinder to make a hat. That took me like... 3 days.
All With a phong shader!
Took nearly 15mins to render a frame, despite only 400 polygons with no textures.
Horay for 3D Studio R4 on DOS!
Ran on a 486!

I started with 3d studio r4 like joxx. I was taking autocad in high school this was way back in 97 and I used to model simple robot dinosaurs and import them into 3d studio add basic textures and animate them as well as a robotech character. I also modeled the space ship from independence day. Boolean back then was my best friend lol. I don't have any pictures of those models unfortunately but I do have my very first low poly model.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v306/Twindragon/reptile.jpg
very first low poly model..I couldn't unwrap for the life of me or rig.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v306/Twindragon/spaceships.jpg
second model seams galore.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v306/Twindragon/mech.jpg
3rd model getting better but still bad seams and stretching.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v306/Twindragon/firstcontest.jpg
First modeling contest at cgchat. I still couldn't rig.
The last 2 was when i started to get serious about 3d and started practicing before I went to school. For some reason I am always modeling reptile characters lol.

My first models were a box "city" so I could fly a camera through it. :) I originally wanted to be an animator, so I didn't really care about modeling.
Fortunately, I no longer have my early models, or renders of them. I don't get attached to my work, so once it's done, and I have a render or two that's worth going anywhere, I don't care what happens to the model itself.

Hey Josh when did you make that demo reel. Your stuff has definitely improved. Although that second mech was pretty sweet.

Damn this is gonna age me somewhat, heres about the 5th or sixth cos i lost most of my stuff, modelled in 1996-97 ish ( i think) and ended up as the cover for a Philip K Dick book (three stigmata of Palmer Eldritch)
Did it for a fan site, publishers wanted to use it but couldnt contact me (changed internet account! ouch) so they commisioned Chris Moore to do a copy. Long story blah blah, got credited as "inspiration" heh.

I first started CG back in 1989 so my first model is long gone. Of course, it was a metallic sphere on a checkered stage. :) That was a big deal back then since everything was hand coded and it would still be a year before 3D Studio DOS v1 came out.
This is the oldest model I could find. It was from about August 1997.
"Pentacle" was my first character model. I made him in trueSpace 3. About a month later, I switched to 3dsmax v2. After a year, I abandoned 3ds forever since, at the time, Win95 and 3dsmax were still pretty unstable.
The PC specs (iirc) were:
- Pentium 120mhz w/512mb RAM, Rendition Verite V1000 GPU, 10GB HDD, & a large (:p) 14" monitor.
The model specs were:
- Approx 250 poly & two 256x256 textures - one specifically for the head. (I originally made him for a game I was coding at home.)
This is scanned in from a 17"x22" Kodak print I had in storage for 11+ years. Hence, the degraded visual. Sorry.

I was doing really primative 3d stuff in highschool, no pun intended, here is my demo reel from early 04, got my career started. I thought I would keep making reels but they are just too hard and time consuming.

my first try at actually making a character was for the big blizzard 3D character competition a few years ago. I had done some 3D models before but never proper game quality characters, this model was a big learning curve for me and helped me realise how much I enjoyed this.
I even used bump maps LOL

Holy crap!
The first company I ever worked for died a slow and painful death back in 2002, making a wierd space MMO RTS called COSM.
And I managed to somehow find ONE screenshot for it:
http://www.mogonline.com/art/ping/cosmonline.png
There were 3 artists on the team. I never made the do hickey fondue looking space thingy (I made other things that resembled other kitchen appliances), but I did texture that planet, light and compose that scene:

I dug this up in some obscure folder on my hard drive from back in 2003.
This is the first tutorial I can remember doing using Lightwave 7. It was based off of some Babylon 5 space shuttle.
I look back now and I don't know how I ever managed to use Lightwave.

My first model that wasn't just primitives (heh, spiky maces lol) was some sort of demon head I made in gmax from the built in tutorials. I made a bunch of those heads, and they were supra kewl! I also made some sort of really simple tie fighter. And then I tried doing the full character tutorial and failed massively and got bored of 3d.
That was 10 years ago or so, I rediscovered 3d a few years ago but just did textures (and cleaning up other people's models :/ ) for a while before actually trying to model for myself. And this is the result, it's really basic and has unexplainable extra loops all over the place. I don't know why I never textured it...

My first model was a modified Barney from Half Life.
Modified and re-textured to look like Homer Simpson. I wish I still had pictures. Shortly after that I made a rocket for Quake that opened up into a sheild when fired.
my first model was :

This is seriously your guys first? first first? Man i'd be embarrassed to post mine. Atleast i could say i came a long way right. I dont really have images of my very first stuff though. I think it was Lightwave in like 98/99. And some max stuff that was mostly primitives jammed together. Yikes. First Max/Serious Sam Mod character probably wouldn't be tooooo bad though.

I assumed when they said first model they meant the first proper character / prop or something. I dont even consider all those jumbles of polygons and primitives I first made in max 5 to be models.

I keep my first models as a laugh. I think i started with a smiley face of spheres but i managed to find these. :D
I wish i thought of the snowman idea thats genius

This was one of my 1st because i hadnt read anything on the program and i was creating it by spheres and lattices. I remember that it use to lag my familie's 300mhz machine.
http://i42.tinypic.com/bdjt06.jpg
I had a green cone with a semi-transparent material on it to look like a hollogram. Also i remember on the final version i used a wire frame render of the glasses that i placed inside the beam. (That was before the xbox was out from some prototype photos).
http://i42.tinypic.com/29pt3lv.jpg
I made this purely to start playng with animation and keyframing
